Duties:1. Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the FNCH Dental Services protocols to al FNCH clinic patients. 2. Develops referral and tracking system to ensure interagency referrals for hygiene care are completed in a timely manner. 3. Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principals of oral hygiene and periodontal care. 4. Records patient-hygienist transactions as they occur in the patient's dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contract, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided. 5. Provides oral health education and appropriate individual counseling for all FNCH dental patients. 6. Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient's health care management. 7. Meets Federal dental hygiene productivity standards for number of patients treated 8. Organizes and performs preventative oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations. 9. Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested. 10. Assists the dental clinic with clinic operations including answering phones, assisting dentists, seating patients, including serving as a dental front desk backup, etc. 11. Maintains confidentiality of all patients "PHI" protected health information as mandated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). 12. Works collaboratively with Dental Clinic staff and other FNCH programs. 13. Assists dental provider with dental procedures. 14. Participates in the PI program of the dental department. 15. Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by the dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as dental department protocol and directive. 16. Assists in the maintenance of all dental department areas in compliance with dental department directive and policies as well as FNCH policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues. 17. Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and patient care of the dental department. 18. Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials .
Qualifications:1. Graduation from an accredited school of dental hygiene. 2. Bachelor's degree from accredited school/college. Master's degree preferred. 3. Unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in the State of New Mexico. 4. Local anesthesia license required.
