Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for our Labor and Delivery Department. The RN will provide direct care to expectant mothers during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period. The ideal candidate will have experience in labor and delivery nursing and a strong commitment to providing the highest level of care to both mothers and newborns. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Care: Provide exceptional care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum, ensuring the safety and comfort of both the mother and newborn.
  • Monitoring and Assessment: Assess and monitor the health of mothers and babies, including vital signs, fetal heart rates, uterine contractions, and overall health conditions.
  • Labor Management: Assist with labor progress and provide support during delivery, including administering medications (e.g., epidurals, pain relief) and performing necessary medical interventions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
  • Delivery Support: Assist in all stages of labor and delivery, including assisting with vaginal and cesarean section births, providing emotional support, and ensuring a sterile and safe environment.
  • Newborn Care: Ensure the immediate care and evaluation of the newborn after delivery, including performing newborn assessments, administering medications, and initiating breastfeeding support.
  • Postpartum Care: Provide nursing care for new mothers, including monitoring their recovery from childbirth, assisting with breastfeeding, and addressing any physical or emotional needs.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and families about childbirth, post-delivery care, newborn care, and any other necessary health practices.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient conditions, treatments, medications, and procedures. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and documentation standards.
  • Emergency Response: Respond quickly to complications during labor, delivery, or postpartum periods, including taking immediate action when required and alerting appropriate team members.
  • Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for patients and their families, ensuring their needs are met, their questions are answered, and they are treated with dignity and respect.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensure/Certifications:
  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in IL.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification preferred.
  • Inpatient Obstetric Nursing (RNC-OB) certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor and Delivery nursing or a similar maternal health care environment.
  • Experience in labor management, vaginal deliveries, and cesarean sections preferred.
  • Skills:
  • Strong clinical assessment skills with the ability to quickly identify changes in patient conditions.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, especially in high-stress situations.
  • Knowledge of pain management techniques and ability to support patients through labor and delivery.
