Sr. Manager - Global Dangerous Goods Transportation at General Motors in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Job Description + Remote OR Hybrid , reporting where work can/needs to be performed / collaboration should happen. If the person lives w/n 50 miles of such a location, they are expected to come in three times a week. If they do not live withing 50 miles of any of those locations, they don't need to report in. + This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of [Warren, Michigan], you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum. The Role - The Global DGT Senior Manager is a subject matter expert who will be responsible for growing GM's global DGT program and building out organizational capabilities to support the growth of electric vehicles. They will lead a team that interprets and applies regulatory standards to drive proactive compliance solutions including interacting with regulators and key stakeholders. Staying updated on business, regulatory, and legislative advancements, the Senior Manager will anticipate relevant opportunities and challenges to GM's business activities. The Team - The Dangerous Goods Transportation (DGT) team is comprised of highly skilled individuals with expertise in the safe and compliant transportation of dangerous goods globally and across multiple modes of transportation. With a comprehensive understanding of regulations and requirements in various countries, the team develops and implements standardized procedures to mitigate risks associated with the transportation of hazardous materials. They collaborate closely with regional teams, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to maintain a uniform approach to dangerous goods transportation, promoting safety, and minimizing environmental impact across GM. What You'll Do (Responsibilities) + Build out the vision for the new DGT Global Organization and recruit, develop and retain high performing DGT professionals + Manage GM's team of global DGT professionals and plan and administer department strategies, goals, objectives, operations, and budgets + Lead the development, review, and updating of DGT documentation, training, and transportation operations procedures, ensuring alignment with requirements and industry best practices + Develop strategy to execute and implement global DGT procedures and compliance practices + Establish and maintain strong relationships with engineering, manufacturing, safety, supply chain, legal, and other internal and external stakeholders + Support teams cross-functionally to identify DGT opportunities in their programs + Collaborate, as necessary, with GM's dealer network, joint ventures, suppliers, and third-party logistics providers on DGT matters + Communicate DGT policies to stakeholders within the organization, driving comprehension and adherence + Stay current on emerging trends, best practices, and developments in DGT through continuous professional development, industry conferences, and participation in trade groups Functional/Technical Capability and Problem Solving: + Demonstrated expertise in international and domestic regulations governing the transportation of dangerous goods, including experience with United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), U.S. Department of Transportation/ Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Maritime Organization (IMO) + Knowledge of national and local regulations pertaining to environmental waste management + Program management skills including experience in planning, executing, and managing initiatives efficiently, aligning them with organizational objectives to deliver desired outcomes + Experience leading multidisciplinary teams involved in DGT operations, regulatory compliance, and safety initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor team members + Critical competencies for this role include: strong managerial courage, conflict management, business acumen, drive for results, interpersonal savvy, and effective team building Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington. + The salary range for this role is (156,200- 239,300). Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more Additional Job Description Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) + Bachelor's degree - (Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety preferred but not required) + 7+ years of people leader experience and/or demonstrated experience building high performance teams + Demonstrated leadership in DGT and/or Environmental Safety + Demonstrated leadership skills encompassing relationship-building, collaboration, decisiveness, innovation, inspiration, and vision + Proficiency in effective communication across all organizational levels and throughout the company is also key + This position will require travel approximately 30-50% of time as new organization is being deployed What Will Give You A Competitive Edge ( Preferred Qualifications) + 5+ years of experience in leading a DGT (or similar) compliance team + 3+ years engaging with regulators + Certified Hazardous Materials Manager + Certified Dangerous Goods Professional or Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor credentials + Experience working in a global context and navigating cultural nuances + Understanding regional variations in regulatory requirements and operational practices + Crisis management and emergency response expertise to ensure swift and coordinated actions mitigating risks and minimizing impact. + Automotive, aerospace, or heavy industrial experience is a plus This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
