Summary

Responsible for organizing and managing crewmembers on street and alley maintenance projects on a daily basis. Also, responsible for operating specialized pieces of equipment and ensuring the safety of all crewmembers.

Salary: $20.72 - $26.78/hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist with the supervision of the street maintenance crew of the Street Department.

  • Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.

  • Cross train other crew members.

  • Address citizen concerns on the job site.

  • Operate specialized pieces of equipment to:

  • level lift various types of pavements

  • patch various types of pavements with hot and cold asphalt

  • crack seal various types of pavements with a hot tar sealant

  • grade unimproved alleys

  • Attend safety meetings on a monthly basis.

  • Ensure all safety equipment is being utilized on a daily basis.

  • Inspect the overall safety of various job projects. Maintain safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.

  • Inspect and maintain assigned equipment. Perform pre-trip/post-trip vehicle inspections and complete daily work sheet for equipment operated.

  • Keep work location and vehicle(s) in order.

  • Operate heavy equipment in clearing of streets and/or alleys during foul weather incidents.

  • Supervise street maintenance crew in the absence of the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • 4 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 4+ years related experience

  • 1+ years of experience in a leadership role preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of safety standard practices governing the operation of vehicles

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, operation and servicing of heavy equipment

  • Skill to operate controls for required equipment

  • Ability to properly use, operate and care for tools, equipment and materials

  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment

  • Ability to read and understand operator's manual

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License with a Tanker Endorsement or the ability to obtain within six months of hire

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works in a field environment including construction sites; outside in extreme heat/ cold, wet weather and noisy conditions. Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more several times daily.

Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and hazards which may include biological, chemical, flammable, or other hazards unknown based on work location and assignment. Training and protective measures are required, including proper donning/doffing of personal protective equipment, as applicable.
