Responsibilities and Duties

The Custodian, reporting to the Maintenance Manager, provides essential work at Gospel Rescue Mission (GRM) by helping assure a clean, healthy, safe, and comfortable environment for our guests. The custodian position is considered essential to our daily operations as it is part of a team responsible for providing professional housekeeping services. This team is responsible for the elevated cleaning standards set in place by GRM. This is a fast-paced setting where specific job assignments, shifts, and locations may be adjusted within our facilities as necessary to meet the department's needs.

  • Warmly greet all guests, including, but not limited to, visitors, volunteers, vendors, staff, guests, donors; community groups, church groups and public officials
  • Maintain cleanliness of internal and external walkways throughout the facility
  • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
  • Pick up trash in the parking lot and around the facility
  • Remove trash from and assist in facilities maintenance that does not require specialized training
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of assigned areas
  • Comply with the local, state, and federal (i.e. Pima County Health Department, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommended guidelines regarding cleaning and disinfecting practices, especially as related to COVID-19
  • Immediately report unsafe, unsanitary, and inoperable situations/material/equipment, etc., to direct supervisor
  • Properly use and store all cleaning and maintenance supplies
  • Routinely inventory and reports supply needs to the Facilities Assistant
  • Disinfect and polish high-touch surfaces and furniture
  • Routinely check and replace/refill all soap and sanitizer dispensers
  • Routinely check and replace restroom sanitation supplies
  • Conduct routine safety and sanitation inspections of all (but not limited to) internal facilities, casitas, dorms, offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms
  • Responsible for communicating and reporting all facilities concerns to direct supervisor
  • Support maintenance team to ensure all offices, equipment, and common areas are operational/functional
  • Use best practices to accomplish and reduce costs while ensuring cleanness of all facilities
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests, determine cause, and suggest solution to direct supervisor
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down, special events, banquets, VIP meetings, etc. as directed by the Maintenance Manager
  • Assist with moves as directed by the Maintenance Manager
  • Attend professional trainings directed by the Maintenance Manager
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Maintenance Manager

Employment Status:
  • Full-time 40 hours per week; non-exempt; eligible for benefits; eligible for paid time off.
  • Should anticipate flexible schedule.

Reports to: Maintenance & Facilities Manager

Vacation Level: 1

Requirements

  • 2 years of work-related experience in facilities, custodial, and grounds keeping services.
  • Proficient in customer service.
  • Proficient in observation, receiving, communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills required to check emails, take required trainings, etc.
  • Maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and must have a clean driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Must be an evangelical Christian, living a life dedicated to Christ, and be an instrument of God's love, grace, hope, and forgiveness to all.

Physical Demands:
  • (The nature of physical effort leading to physical fatigue) the ability to frequently walk, stand, sit, climb stairs, lift equipment, twist, pull and/or bend numerous times throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs solo. Ability to work outdoors in the heat and/or cold when necessary. Ability to use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, and hedge or brush trimmers. Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, scrubbers, and power washers

It is the policy of Gospel Rescue Mission to complete a background check, drug test and motor vehicle authorization on applicants in the conditional offer stage.
