WHAT YOU’LL DO
All prospect & donor management roles on Field Fundraising teams are responsible for cultivating, stewarding, soliciting, and managing a portfolio of donors in Massachusetts who share our commitment to ensuring that all children have access to an equitable and excellent education. As a member of the Field Fundraising team, you will be a part of a team-based effort charged with developing and executing on a long-term vision and strategy to achieve our development goals for both public and private funding. In your role, you will partner with Executive Directors, regional advisory board members, and other front-line fundraisers to maximize giving, playing a key role in new donor strategy and acquisition over the next 3-5 years. This external-facing role focuses on cultivating relationships with corporate and foundation donors to highlight the impact of Teach For America Massachusetts and develop new strategies for securing funding.
Reporting to the Senior Managing Director (SMD), Development you will be charged with setting the vision and strategies to raise $2 million or more from a portfolio of institutional donors who have the capacity and/or typically give $10,000 or more annually. You will work directly with the Executive Director and fundraising team to cultivate and steward your portfolio of donors, and in some circumstances, you may also be the primary solicitor. We are looking for a specialist in fundraising and development who - in partnership with local Executive Directors and the Field Fundraising team - can independently develop and execute the strategy to acquire, cultivate, retain, and diversify your portfolio of donors (including public and private donors). This includes leveraging relationships with the regional and program teams to capture stories of impact, creating polished materials such as pitch decks, and supporting the processing and stewardship of end-of-year gifts during onboarding.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
15% - Set vision, strategy, and plan for cultivating a portfolio of donors, incorporating input from the ED, SMD, and VP, Field Fundraising with the goal of maximizing revenue to the organization as a whole
50% - Cultivate, steward, and solicit (as appropriate) a portfolio of corporate and foundation donors, with a focus on securing new contributions and maintaining strong relationships with existing donors.
25% - Work in close partnership with the local Executive Director to build relationships, gather impact stories about corps members and students, and create compelling narratives for donors, including local advisory board members
5% - Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our customer relationship management system (currently SalesForce) and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach
5% - Contribute to team and organizational initiatives, including supporting a culture of collaboration and excellence in fundraising efforts
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
Relationship Building and Management
Highly skilled in building and strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including donors, advisory board members, and colleagues
Proven ability to influence and inspire others through compelling storytelling and effective communication
Fundraising and Development
Specialize in best practices of development and fundraising
Track record of successfully navigating complex philanthropic landscapes to reach revenue goals
Experience stewarding a diverse portfolio of donors/funders from various funding streams
Leverage historical local development trends in order to set strategy and/or adjust course as necessary
Portfolio Management
Set vision and direction for a specific portfolio of local donors and independently execute on that strategy in service of maximizing revenue to Teach For America as an enterprise
Monitor progress against the portfolio to ensure continuous donor stewardship
Prior experience
Required: At least 7+ years of related experience in development and fundraising context, with direct experience with grant and proposal writing
Required: Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals as a donor portfolio manager
Preferred: Teach For America or similar education-focused non-profit development experience
Work Demands
Occasional weekend or evening work hours required.
Must be able to travel to engage with local donors
Must reside in the Greater Boston Area

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
