Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

HOURLY RATE: $21.00/hour
Under supervision of the Facilities Manager, performs a variety of custodial duties to maintain the condition and appearance of university buildings and facilities in accordance with established standards: sweeps, dusts, removes liter, wastepaper; cleans fixtures, equipment, floors, lavatories, washrooms, etc.; operates power cleaning equipment to polish floor as required. Must be able to work any shift. Shift hours and days include 6am-3pm, 1pm-10pm and can include Saturday and Sunday. Specific shifts are not quarantined, and the hours/days are based on business needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Sweeps, mops, polishes, and buffs floors using power cleaning equipment. Vacuums and spot clean carpets.
- Performs general custodial duties in an office, such as cleaning, dusting, washing windows, and moving and polishing furniture and equipment.
- Cleans fixtures, equipment, windows, walls restrooms, etc. Stocks supplies in restrooms as scheduled and as needed.
- Picks up trash and litter; removes trash bags from containers and replaces bags.
- Cleans elevators and stairwell areas.
- Mixes chemicals for performing custodial tasks using appropriate procedures.
- Picks up paper and refuse from grounds.
- Sweeps walkways and staircases.
- Assists in assuring that service requests are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- May assist with controlling supplies usage and assuring adequate inventory.
- Maintains all the University’s indoor plants in an attractive and healthy condition.
- Performs specialty tasks, as assigned by the Supervisor, for building maintenance and custodial services.
- Ensures that safety procedures are observed.
- May train and provide direction to subordinate staff. May act in a lead capacity at the discretion of the Supervisor.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Qualifications/Requirements:
EDUCATION:
· High School Diploma or equivalency.· Vocational/Specialized Training beyond high school is a plus. EXPERIENCE:- 1-3 years' experience in related area.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
- Knowledge of all the basics of cleaning and use of power cleaning equipment.
- Ability to operate power cleaning equipment.
- Good knowledge of custodial work and the repair of related equipment.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to read labels and instructions to mix chemicals.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and train others.
COMPLEXITY:
- The ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and care while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.
