Division Overview:
Crown’s Food Division is one of the leading manufacturer of food cans in the world. Our complete array of food packaging serves a variety of markets, including fruit, vegetables, dairy, fish, meat, ready meals, pet food, infant milk powder and other dry food products. Location:
Plant 37 is located in Hanover, PA.  The Plant manufactures  2-piece and 3-piece steel cans for the food industry, working both continuous and conventional shifts. There are approximately 85 employees at the Hanover location.  The Plant is located on Route 194 in York County and is in close proximity to Gettysburg PA, York PA and the Maryland border.

**CURRENT OPENING IS ON CONTINUOUS SCHEDULE; 4x4 NIGHTS 5 pm - 5 am.**

Position Overview:
The Chemical Process Operator, reporting directly to the Manufacturing Supervisor, operates and maintains the appropriate systems, to ensure that cans are properly cleaned and wash-coated, that water effluent released from the plant meets regulatory criteria for water quality and that coolant/lubricant used in can formulation meets specification.

 Duties And Responsibilities:
The Chemical Process Operator’s responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:  

  • Operate and maintain the washer/washcoat system
  • Operate and maintain the coolant filtration system
  • Monitor and operate wastewater treatment system
  • Perform process quality checks, standardize and maintain lab equipment and instruments
  • Prepare manifests for non-hazardous solid waste removal. Prepare dumpster for waste disposal.
  • Monitor and operate deionized water system and reverse osmosis system
  • Check water hardness and inspect water softening equipment
  • Collect, measure, document, and manage spoilage in the washer area
  • Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of waste treatment area, washer and cooler areas.
  • Participate in periodic maintenance of equipment and direct team members from other areas in cleaning of wastewater treatment room, coolant system and can washer
  • Assist in chemical inventory control by communicating usage and anticipated needs to applicable leadership team member
  • Communicate maintenance needs to applicable leadership team member
  • Document activities in logbooks to provide communication to other team members
  • Participate in plant safety programs
  • Attend shift meetings and participate as needed
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigns

Minimum Requirements

  • Manufacturing experience
  • Basic computer skills, mechanical abilities and math calculation abilities
  • Must be available to work alternate shift schedules and/or overtime based on business need.
  • Understand statistics and quality specification
  • Ability to read and interpret monitoring gauges and controllers
  • Understand chemical handling procedures, including use of SDS, PPS, storage and disposal requirements
  • Basic knowledge of pumps and operations of fluid handling systems 

Preferred Requirements

  • High School Education/GED
  • Previous manufacturing experience
  • Knowledge of all OSHA related training in a manufacturing environment.
  • Able to work with strong attention to detail, follow detailed instructions, establish and maintain high level of organization and quality
  • 6S Training
  • GMP and Food Safety knowledge and/or previous experience 
  • Understanding of pH, metal solubility, conductivity, refractive index, ion exchange, basic fluid dynamics and flow diagrams
  • Able to understand concentration calculations
  • Class "D" wastewater operator certification preferred

 Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 
  • The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for 8–12-hour shifts

 Working Conditions

  • Generally, works in a plant environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be exposed to light lifting, warehouse forklift traffic
  • Team member may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures
  • Production noise level is frequently loud
