Experience in working with special education students preferred Bilingual preferred

Direct Supervisor

Building Principal, may receive assignments from designated personnel as required.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, physical demands and working conditions required of this position. Demonstrate support for the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District #123 strategic plan Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures Record keeping of attendance, assessment data Assist Teacher Instructional activities Preparing materials for classroom use Organizing and directing games and recreational activities both in the classroom and on the playground Supervises students on the schoolyard, in the hallways, in restrooms, in the cafeteria, to and from the school bus, and otherwise as may be appropriate Modify class work Record grades Set up equipment and help prepare materials for instruction

Assist Students Take to school office or nurse's office as directed by the teacher Taking off and putting on of clothing upon arrival, at recess, and prior to their departure from school Attend to physical needs as directed by the teacher Perform exercises or play games Attend to disabled students' physical needs, including feeding, toileting, teaching good grooming habits; assist with wheelchair transfer; assisting students riding the school bus;

Independently supervise and/or instruct students under the direction of the teacher or by a building principal as needed May be called to serve as a substitute under certain circumstances Communicate and cooperate with colleagues, students, parents, and the community as needed to meet professional standards Maintain and improve professional competence Participate in meetings and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job

Evaluation

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Building Principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
