Position Description: Prepare detailed estimates for the project based on the design documents, narratives, and specifications, focusing on the Mechanical/Plumbing/Fire Protection trades.

Reports to: Preconstruction Manager / MEP Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical estimating responsibility for complex projects such as Mission Critical, Market Segment, and Government jobs with MEP package contract value of $25M+.
  • Communicate estimate and scopes of work to stakeholders (e.g., Turner staff, architects, engineers, and owners).
  • Prepare quantity take-offs, analysis, estimates, and studies for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection items incorporated in scope from conceptual design through completed construction documents.
  • Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents (e.g., plans, specifications) to determine required scope not already indicated.
  • Establish working relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing.
  • Develop working relationships with local Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection trade partners.
  • Perform constructability analysis of project documents.
  • Provide first costs analysis and participate in life cycle analysis with Design team.
  • Participate in decision making process with Operations and Procurement.
  • Lead company-wide or regional MEP strategic initiatives and/or special projects.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems for project pursuits.
  • Participate in development and implementation of MEP training.
  • Lead integration of MEP Operations staff during MEP PreCon process.
  • Coordinate equipment pricing with SourceBlue for estimates.
  • Conduct value analysis to define cost efficient alternatives.
  • Serve as liaison with Engineers, Design consultants, Trade partners, and Owner’s representatives.
  • Prepare estimates and proposals for contract types.
  • Participate in estimate reviews with Design team and client.
  • Participate in project hand-off to Operations.
  • Participate in authoring scope requisitions for bidding/procurement.
  • Evaluate trade partner proposals and manage identified scope gap risks.
  • Assist project staff to evaluate large change orders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems estimating experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Supervisory experience desired.
