Job Summary At UCSF Fresno, the Research Finance Analyst (RFA) serves as the faculty's single point of contact for post-award financial management for research/public service grants and contracts. The RFA ensures Fresno faculty receive high-quality, efficient, responsive, and responsible post-award research administration services. Reporting directly to the UCSF Fresno Finance Manager, the RFA's role is to facilitate integration, communication, and coordination of all information and activities related to each sponsored project.
The RFA is responsible for the financial management of each research, clinical trial, or public service project, preparation of monthly financial reports, forecasting funding needs, preparation of online journals, payroll transfers, authorizing transactions for purchases and travel expenditures, financial invoices and certifications to the sponsor, award close-out process, and annual budget planning.
The RFA will manage post-award services for various award mechanisms, including federal government and non-profit grants, and state and industry-sponsored contracts. The RFA will work with departments at UCSF and handle grants and contracts from multiple residency programs and special programs at UCSF Fresno.
The RFA must be an expert in University, federal, state, and nonprofit accounting policies and extramural fund management, audit compliance, and strictly adhere to grant and UCSF policies. Responsibilities include monitoring the award budget and revenue and cost allocation using in-house applications such as Research Administration System (RAS), BearBuy, MyReports, and other Financial Reporting tools.
The position requires analytical judgment to adhere to sound internal controls and comply with SAS 115, 2CFR Part 200 (A-133), and other compliance guidelines. The RFA must exhibit excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to interact effectively with faculty, managers, and other administrators. The position is self-directed, requires accuracy, and the ability to handle multiple projects with a large amount of data.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Department Description UCSF Fresno is a regional campus of UCSF located in the Central San Joaquin Valley, administered by the Office of the Vice Dean. The primary focus is medical education with various programs and oversight for California Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).
Required Qualifications 6+ years of research administration and post-award management experience
Expert knowledge of University, federal, state, and nonprofit accounting policies and extramural fund management
Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions
Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting
Demonstrated advanced competence in spreadsheet and database software
Strong organization and communication skills; customer service focus
Knowledge of current compliance regulations in all areas of research administration
Experience with all types of award mechanisms
Independent judgment and strong organization skills
Preferred Qualifications Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation and sponsor-specific policies
University of California or California State University experience in accounting or finance
Prior use of UCSF tools such as Research Administration System (RAS)
