Job Description
Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for an Economic Data Analyst to supports the missions of the Business and Economic Research Center (BERC), and the Division of Economic Development and Community Engagement (EDCE), by retrieving data from official sources, compiling and managing electronic databases for analysis, conducting analyses to maintain the integrity and security of the data, generating descriptive visualization of the data, assisting BERC and EDCE personnel in preparing reports and publications, and maintaining and updating the BERC website and data repository.
Duties and Responsibilities
70% Retrieve, Organize, and Manage Data for Economic Analysis (Essential)
Build large scale electronic database to support the applied regional economic analysis work of the Business and Economic Research Center and the Micropolitan Studies initiatives of the Economic Development and Community Engagement Division. Specific duties include:

Duties and Responsibilities
70% Retrieve, Organize, and Manage Data for Economic Analysis (Essential)
Build large scale electronic database to support the applied regional economic analysis work of the Business and Economic Research Center and the Micropolitan Studies initiatives of the Economic Development and Community Engagement Division. Specific duties include:
- Retrieval of economic and business data from various websites and other sources maintained by federal, state, and corporate entities, including but not limited to, the following:
- United States Bureau of the Census
- United States Bureau of Economic Analysis
- United States Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Kansas Labor Market Information Center
- National Credit Union Administration
- Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
- Placer.ai
- Build and maintain the currency of relational databases for statistical analysis using the latest hardware and software available to the BERC and EDCE.
- Generate descriptive statistics and data visualizations as needed for various BERC and EDCE publications, including the quarterly Pittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Report and the annual Pittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Profile.
- Assist the BERC Director in the collection of data to construct local cost-of-living and price indexes.
- Assist in the collection and organization of data necessary to perform economic impact studies and other customized work for clients of the BERC and EDCE.
25% Editorial and Publication Responsibilities
- Provide editorial support for articles, reports, tables, charts, and graphs for the quarterly Pittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Report and the annual Pittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Profile.
- Assist the BERC Director in managing the physical publication and distribution of the Pittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Report and the Pittsburg Micropolitan Area Economic Profile.
- On a quarterly basis, publish updated local, regional, and state data series on the public-facing BERC website.
- Generate data visualization graphics for use in customized hardcopy and online reports and publications of the BERC and EDCE.
5% Other Duties as Assigned (Essential)
- Assist BERC and EDCE personnel in the production and delivery of community outreach events and projects.
- Other office duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience - Time of Hire
- Bachelor's degree in economics, business, statistics, data science, or closely related field
- Experience with Excel and statistical analysis software packages
Preferred Education and Experience -
- Appropriate professional certifications in database management, professional writing, or other relevant skill
- Experience managing relational databases.
