Who We Are

The Department of General Services, Facilities Management Division (FM) is responsible for facility maintenance and management, including preventative maintenance, work order processing and reporting, vendor management and capital planning.

FM works behind the scenes to ensure the city's departments and agencies can function at their best. The FM Division staff is responsible for providing a full range of building services including plumbing, heating/cooling, electrical, painting, and maintenance of doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and floors, among other services. Through seven teams, FM is responsible for maintaining over 8,000,000 million square feet of buildings and structures in over 140 city owned and leased facilities, sites and structures.

What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $25.57 - $32.00/hour, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

In this position, you will be expected to report to the Webb Municipal Building, located at 201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202, five days a week. You may also be required to address access issues at other locations as needed. A flex schedule will be available upon successful completion of the probationary period.

What You'll Do

The Facilities Management Division within General Services is currently seeking an Access Control Hardware Specialist. In this role, you will serve as a locksmith and badge access technician, performing routine maintenance to support and assist various facilities across the City and County of Denver.

Specifically, as a Access Control Hardware Specialist you will:
  • Maintain access control hardware and duress button hardware across different facilities.
  • Cut keys, pin locks, verify keying and change out lock hardware
  • Manage digital key log software, key, lock, and door hardware within building standards.
  • Perform specialized installation, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of access hardware, both analog and digital at city facilities.
  • Manage inventory of access control hardware, key and door hardware, duress button systems - including credentials, locations and I8 positions, hardware, and low voltage hardware.
  • Examine and test machinery, equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning. Inspects facilities and equipment to identify equipment and lock needs; maintains records and prepares reports, which includes estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs, both for facilities and tenant requests.
  • Assists with tenant requests for badge access, lock changes, and the forecasting of requested upgrades across multiple facilities.
  • Perform light maintenance and operation tasks when needed
  • Coordinates work tasks or activities on projects involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of access systems of City buildings and facilities.
  • Uses schematics, blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions to review, plan and coordinate, with third party vendors on design, installation, and repairs of security systems of facilities structures.
  • Collaborates with other trades workers in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of security equipment across portfolios.
  • Observes all common safety practices. Ensures work areas are cleaned.
  • In addition to your other job responsibilities, you will assist in snow removal duties.

    • Earning a certificate from DHI. The Door + Hardware Technician (DHT) certificate was created to recognize individuals who have demonstrated proficiency in identifying suitable products for assembly in accordance with industry codes and standards.
    • Detailing, estimating and project management - Door and Hardware Technician (DHT) and the higher-level Door & Hardware Consultant (DHC).
    • Planning access control and electronic access control (EAC) systems for large projects - Access Control System Consultant (ACSC).
    • Inspecting and testing fire door assemblies, creating reports, and recommending corrective actions - Fire and Egress Door Assembly Inspection (FDAI) certification
    • Taking continuing education opportunities for in-demand areas of expertise in steel doors.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, mechanical, or facility maintenance.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
  • License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
