Description

Coburn Technologies, Inc. designs, engineers, manufactures and services computer-integrated optical lens processing systems and their related consumables and supplies. Our products are used in making prescription lenses, and then coating and shaping them to fit into eyeglass frames. We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our Engineering team!

The Mechanical CAD Technician works closely with the Engineering team developing, and preparing engineering documentation including detailed drawings, bills of materials (BOMs) related to new product development, and engineering changes for existing products. The successful candidate will report directly to the VP of Engineering and collaborate with purchasing and manufacturing on product development projects. Essential Functions

  • Uses CAD software (SolidWorks) to provide support to Engineers by devising, developing, and recommending new designs and/or modifying existing designs to meet engineering, manufacturing, or customer requirements.
  • Produces detail drawings from 3D CAD models for a wide variety of engineering projects. Detail drawings will include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture.
  • Prepares and documents bills of material.
  • Writes Engineering Change Orders (ECO's) and supports other ECO activities as prescribed by the Department Manager. Completes all documentation work as a result of ECO's and Engineering Change Requests (ECR's).
  • Ensures components and assemblies adhere to applicable industry and business standards.
  • Works with engineering team to construct prototypes by machining, welding and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Provides status updates of ongoing projects and future projects.
  • Works with others engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity/quality.
  • Maintains active role on continuous improvement teams.
Requirements
  • Associates degree in drafting design, or technical program certification and/or one to three years drafting experience. Additional experience may be used in place of education.
  • Excellent working knowledge of SolidWorks (preferred) or other 3D CAD systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing machinery strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products; especially Excel.
  • ERP system experience (Infor SyteLine highly desired) strongly preferred.
  • Perceptive, analytical, and objective approach to problem solving.
  • Skilled in report writing with emphasis on MS Word, Excel.
  • Attentive to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively with other employees.
  • Demonstrated understanding of new product development processes and cross-functional teams.

This is an onsite position, based out of our South Windsor CT headquarters. Position is full time, hourly, non-exempt. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm.
