The Associate Mechanical Designer supports the design and documentation of components and assemblies using CAD software and Stratasys’ Bill of Material System. This role involves collaborating closely with engineers and senior designers to refine and improve designs, ensuring they meet product performance standards.

What you will be doing:

  • Acquires skills necessary to assist in creating detailed mechanical designs of components and mechanisms based on project requirements and supervisor instruction

  • Participates in overall project planning and design evaluation reviews, providing input as appropriate

  • Technical input is given during these processes

  • Utilizes CAD software to develop 3D models, per detailed instruction

  • Prepares and documents components and mechanisms according to appropriate electrical and mechanical drawing standards. Includes drawings, schematics, and Bill of Materials for product designs

  • Helps prepare and author engineering and field change orders (ECRs and ECOs) on products

  • BoMs, ECRs, and ECOs are current, complete and accurate

  • Develops and maintains a knowledge and understanding of regularly available information resources and systems including but not limited to catalogs, web pages, internal bills of material (BoM) processors and design handbooks

  • Demonstrates an understanding of fabricating and manufacturing processes of components and assemblies

  • Plans and coordinates the experimental manufacture and testing of prototype assemblies when required

  • Develops and maintains a broad knowledge and understanding of the laboratory, shop, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and vendor functions and interface relationships between and among such functions

  • Contributes to the development of proprietary property including patents and disclosures that have potential benefits for the company

  • Contributions fit within the framework of the company's strategy for developing, testing, and adopting proprietary technologies

  • Develops an awareness of process and product opportunities that would benefit the company

  • Ensures components and mechanisms meet engineering specifications, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and safety guidelines

  • Ensures consideration is given for correct proportions, allowable stress, speed, weight, operational details, manufacturing methods, tolerances, and costs regarding overall designs

  • Learns and consistently follows all established protocols and procedures covering documentation and data storage

  • Participates in regularly scheduled design reviews to reduce costs and help minimize delays at all stages of the development process.

  • Resources are known and utilized as appropriate

  • Collaborates with designers, design engineers, and cross-functional teams to build a positive relationship and enhance the quality and quantity of work performed.

  • Contribute to problem-solving efforts, identifies opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, or design optimization

  • Assists and provides support as directed by supervisor and/or engineers for design and documentation

  • Recommendations and suggestions are carefully considered and well documented

  • Keeps the supervisor, responsible engineer and development team informed of important matters, including schedule, budget and performance

  • Verbal and written communication is clear and concise

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures

  • Attend all required company training

  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the department or manager

Must have for this role:

  • Less than 1 year of related experience

  • Demonstrated history of applying basic engineering principles and 3D CAD skills to a wide range of component and assemblies’ design

  • Ability to independently perform work assignments with minimal direction and instruction

  • Skill and ability to lead and coordinate experimental manufacturing as scheduled or assigned

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally or in writing

  • Ability to work well with others

Nice to have:

  • Associate’s degree in mechanical design or equivalent field

  • Additional continuing technical education is desirable for this position
