Job Title: Mechanical Designer Job Description We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer to lead the design and development of mechanical rooms, rooftop penthouses, piping systems, and other components associated with industrial refrigeration systems for cold storage warehouses. The ideal candidate will possess strong engineering principles and experience in mechanical and refrigeration systems. Responsibilities Lead the design of mechanical rooms, rooftop penthouses, piping systems, and other components associated with industrial refrigeration systems for cold storage warehouses. Perform advanced engineering calculations for system design, including tolerance dimensions, thermal analysis, and structural considerations. Ensure designs are compliant with company procedures, industry regulations, and client standards. Review and submit detailed drawings to upper management, fabrication teams, and construction teams for approval. Provide technical support during the building and installation process to ensure systems are built according to design specifications. Build Bills of Materials (BOM) for each design and input data into the ERP system. Collaborate with the fabrication team during the manufacturing process, offering technical expertise as needed. Work with the purchasing team to ensure timely and accurate material orders. Communicate with vendors regarding part specifications and fabrication requirements. Occasionally mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on design best practices and technical issues. Essential Skills 2-5 years of experience in mechanical system design. Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. Professional experience with AutoCAD or other CAD programs (e.g., the person, SolidWorks). Strong understanding of engineering principles, with a focus on mechanical and refrigeration systems. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME preferred). Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing large-scale industrial refrigeration or related projects (e.g., HVAC, commercial refrigeration, or heavy industrial construction). Proven leadership abilities, with experience managing cross-functional teams of engineers, technicians, and subcontractors. Strong negotiation skills to ensure cost-effective procurement and the ability to solve complex issues independently within project constraints. The ability to make independent business decisions within budget, seeking guidance only when dealing with exceptionally difficult issues. Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple ongoing projects. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to manage client expectations and provide clear updates on project progress. Proficiency in project management software and familiarity with CAD and engineering drawings. Expertise in ammonia and CO2-based refrigeration systems, with a deep understanding of relevant safety and environmental regulations. Professional Engineering License. Ability and willingness to travel to construction sites nationwide. Work Environment Headquarters are located in Lyndhurst. Our team consists of about 250 total employees, including 80 engineers and 120 operations personnel. The company has doubled in size in the last two years and is dedicated to designing, fabricating, and installing customized, turn-key industrial refrigeration systems.
