Brown and Caldwell (BC), a national environmental engineering and consulting firm, has an exciting Senior Design leadership opportunity to lead our design project delivery for our industrial water and wastewater clients nationwide.

Project opportunities will vary in size and complexity and will require the implementation of water and wastewater treatment process solutions specific to several industries including oil and gas, mining, food and beverage and manufacturing.

In this role, the ideal candidate will manage the overall execution of assigned design projects, lead the delivery team members, and coordinate with our enterprise Design Services disciplines to augment private sector design delivery bench strength. This role will collaborate with the Private Sector Portfolio Design Manager (PDM), Portfolio Design Leads (PDLs), and Chief Engineer to lead the execution of best delivery practices and recommended design delivery approaches for our industrial clients.

Description

The Design Manager will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary design teams during the execution of design projects for our nationwide private sector clients. This coordination will encompass the following:

  • Lead the design team, including discipline leads for process and building mechanical, structural, architectural, civil and electrical andproject engineers to develop complete engineering design documents.
  • Work with the area leaders, project managers, local staff and client service teams to identify and mitigate project and business risk.
  • Work with local Client Service Teams and Project Managers in scoping and pricing large design projects.
  • Lead and support project pursuits, as needed.
  • Identify projects requiring additional attention and resources and work with the BC enterprise to fill the needs.
  • Participate in Area/business unit Leadership Teams as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Understand project financial metrics and develop management strategies to deliver on key metrics.
  • Oversee private sector portfolio project execution during design delivery including:

    • Supporting staffing plans and resource allocation.
    • Project planning support (scheduling, BIM/CAD execution plan, QMP, risk management, and standards).
    • Guidance to PMs during project execution.
    • Standardize pursuit work products (scope, schedule, and budget).
    • Maintain project standards internally (equipment and drawing preferences, tagging, quality and programming review procedures, and overall delivery guidelines).
    • Communicate standards via regular team meetings and training.


Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or related Engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional engineering experience in water or wastewater related field.
  • 3 years of Design Management experience on multidisciplinary design projects.
  • PE Required (Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental).
  • Hands-on understanding of multidisciplinary design.
  • Decisiveness (the ability to take input and make a decision in a timely manner).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills (comfort dealing directly with clients).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Design Management experience on multidisciplinary design projects.
  • Experience in detail process mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment processes including, but not limited to membrane filtration, aerobic/anaerobic biological systems, biosolids handling, chemical precipitation, liquid storage and pumping systems.
  • Experience working on private sector water, wastewater or infrastructure design.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A:

Salary: $118,000-161,000

Location B:

Salary: $130,000-177,000

Location C:

Salary: $142,000-194,000
