About the Position
The Miriam Hospital, part of Brown University Health, is seeking an experienced Interventional Radiology Technologist to join our Vascular Interventional Radiology Department. In this role, you will perform diagnostic and interventional procedures under the guidance of an interventional radiologist or Physician Assistant (PA). You will assist in a variety of procedures such as arteriograms, angioplasties, drainages, and catheter placements. You will also be responsible for operating specialized equipment, maintaining a clean work area, ensuring proper billing, and supporting patient-centered care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing diagnostic and interventional procedures, including arteriograms, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), abscess drainage, and central venous catheter insertions/exchanges.
- Assisting physicians during procedures by scrubbing in or circulating in the procedure room, passing instruments, and preparing sterile trays.
- Operating specialized equipment such as GE INNOVA 4100, MEDRAD power injector, Philips MD4, and various ultrasound units.
- Managing image processing, PACS uploads, and ensuring proper charge codes are on requisitions.
- Preparing and positioning patients for procedures, maintaining aseptic conditions, and monitoring reactions to contrast injections.
- Maintaining radiographic equipment, restocking supplies, and ensuring that the work area meets quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Providing training and instruction to students and fellow staff in interventional radiology techniques.

Requirements
- Completion of formal training in an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology or equivalent.
- Current license to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
- ARRT certification required.
- Minimum of three months of training in aseptic techniques and specialized catheterization studies.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, staff, and physicians, especially when patients are under physical or emotional stress.
- One year of Angiography experience preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This role involves working in a healthcare environment with exposure to medical equipment, direct patient contact, and potential hazards minimized by adherence to safety procedures. The position requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting, as well as the ability to lift and turn patients and equipment. You will wear lead aprons and glasses for extended periods during procedures.
