Job Duties
Successful candidate will teach up to 12 semester hours of undergraduate history courses with specialization in African-American and African History.
Other duties include: serving on departmental, school and university committees; recruiting and advising students, research and scholarly endeavors and other functions assigned by the department chair.
Responds to other duties as assigned (ad hoc assignments) as directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/office and agency.
This is a full-time, tenure-eligible (tenure-track) position.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a Ph.D. in History. ABD may apply but must have Ph.D. completed prior to appointment.
Successful candidate must have a strong and appropriate record of college teaching, student advising, research, scholarship and service/outreach.
Must have the ability to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in African-American history.
Knowledge of a subject/field including current developments in a teaching discipline housed within the department.
Ability to:
•Develop effective curriculum materials
•Organize and effectively present coursework
•Elicit student interest
•Contribute generally to student academic progress in a significant way
•Promote a team effort within the department to address department and/or institutional issues
•Develop and effectively manage existing talent.
*Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.

•Ability to teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses in African history, as well as world history surveys and U.S. history surveys will be a plus.
