Summary:
The Lateral Recruiting Manager is responsible for identifying and implementing strategies, processes, and protocols for Firm-wide lateral attorney recruiting. Under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources, this position collaborates with other Firm Directors, including the Directors of Business Development & Marketing, IT, Operations and Finance, to ensure the alignment of lateral recruiting strategies with broader Firm objectives.
The Lateral Recruiting Manager also works closely with these Directors to support the seamless integration of lateral attorneys into the Firm. This role takes an active part in promoting the Firm’s culture, which is designed to attract, retain, and integrate top legal talent.
Essential Functions:
The position’s essential functions include:
- Discover and implement innovative ways to source and recruit legal talent, safeguarding a strong pipeline of qualified diverse candidates, and ensuring that growth aligns with the Firm’s Strategic Plan;
- Building and nurturing a diverse candidate pool, which includes researching firms, individuals and leveraging the Firm’s practices across the state of California;
- Raise the internal and external visibility of the Firm’s lateral attorney recruitment efforts through networking events;
- Meet regularly with the Practice Group Leaders (PGLs) to keep abreast of short- and long-term lateral attorney hiring needs and strategies;
- Summarize and maintain feedback on lateral candidates to Director of Human Resources and Director of Business Development & Marketing;
- Work with Human Resources Specialist to ensure candidate background checks, and conflict checks are completed, and with the Compensation Committee and Finance Department on financial analysis and compensation benchmarking prior to extending an offer; and
- Work with Human Resources Director and Human Resources Specialist to ensure smooth integration of new laterals into the Firm.
Overall Essential Functions:
- Ability to travel between the Firm’s offices, meeting with and providing exceptional support to the PGLs;
- Demonstrate excellent leadership skills (e.g., organizing, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making) necessary for effective management;
- Display well-developed, professional interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels;
- Consistent, on-site attendance (3 days in office), and work extended hours as required;
- Maintain composure and work efficiently and accurately during highly stressful circumstances;
- Maintain professional network with peers and individuals in related associations to stay abreast of changes in recruiting and the legal industry;
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 5 or more years of expertise in lateral attorney recruiting required;
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a command of the English language, including proper spelling and grammar;
- Strong organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple projects and respond quickly to changing priorities;
- Ability to work well under stress and to work independently with little or no direction;
- Ability to design short- and long-term goals with clear criteria to measure success and return on investment;
- A proactive and strategic approach and the ability to work "hands-on" as required;
- Strong presentation skills combined with self-assurance and poise that engenders confidence from Firm management and leaders;
- Ability to effectively function in a team environment, including the ability to be open minded, cordial and cooperative with Firm employees; and
- Computer literacy and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation programs.
- Use and familiarity with recruiting and applicant tracking software such as Dayforce and LawCruit.
Annual Salary/Compensation:
Salary is up to 175K (DOE/DOQ).
