About The Role & The Moment at The Moth
The Moth
champions the vitality and urgency of storytelling and has defied categorization since its inception in 1997. The Moth has an annual operating budget of approximately $14 million, with approximately 70% earned and 30% contributed. In seeking its first
Vice President of Marketing & Communications , The Moth aims to align its marketing efforts around a central brand strategy and story. In the year ahead, The Moth will engage in a comprehensive review of its mission and strategic objectives. Under the leadership of Executive Director Sarah Haberman and Chief Creative Officer Christina Norman, the new VP will maximize opportunities for audience expansion through focused growth and exploration of new offerings. As The Moth’s formal marketing operation was only recently formed in 2019, the new VP will have the opportunity to build upon early efforts, optimizing the structures and systems currently in place. The successful VP will honor previous strategies while leading a collaborative vision for increasing discovery of The Moth. Key Opportunities for The Moth’s Vice President of Marketing & Communications: Developing a centralized brand strategy and story to support all programs. Growing the audience for The Moth’s diversified content streams through a comprehensive marketing strategy. Centralizing and optimizing sales functions for live performances. Assessing current systems to align Marketing and Communications operations with organizational goals. Contributing to the strategic planning process across the organization. Representing and centering the audience at The Moth’s Executive table. Working with the Sr. Manager of Brand Partnerships to expand the portfolio of corporate sponsors. About The Position The VP of Marketing & Communications (VPMC) is responsible for the overall brand marketing vision for The Moth. They will lead planning and implementation of marketing and communications strategies to drive brand awareness, audience growth, and revenue across various business verticals. The VPMC will lead audience growth through event marketing, brand partnerships, digital & social media, email marketing, and press/communications. The role requires an executive who can approach mission-driven work with both analytical and creative mindsets. Desired Skills & Qualifications: A genuine commitment to The Moth’s mission and values. A dynamic, responsive, and inclusive leadership style. A proven track record of results-driven brand marketing experience. A willingness and ability to engage across differences. A balance of analytical and creative abilities. A working knowledge of the podcast industry landscape. Experience with marketing technologies preferred.
