The Accounting Manager supports key internal and external stakeholders and is responsible for the gathering and analyzing of financial data, and for reporting the results of financial transactions. The Accounting Manager uses professional concepts and applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues including accounting determinations and overseeing the month-end financial reporting process. This associate works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. The Accounting Manager exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. The Accounting Manager implements the Leadership Charter, establishes team congruency with the True Difference Culture, and demonstrates leadership consistent with the True North Leadership (TNL) platform. The Accounting Manager also demonstrates high levels of team function and ability to execute.

Responsibilities:

  • Establishes team congruency with the True Difference Culture

  • Leads and manages Staff Accountant positions (as applicable)
  • Oversees the month-end financial statement close process including creation of the month-end financial statements, reconciliations, and all manual closing journal entries
  • Collaborates with external auditors to complete the Annual Financial Audit
  • Prepares analysis and reports in the areas of Monthly Actual Gross Margin Results, Monthly Speculative Gross Margin Results, and Monthly Financial Results including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Budget vs. Actual Analysis
  • Demonstrates high levels of team function with other Leaders in Centralized Services and Market Teams
  • Coordinates Accounts Payable and Monthly Accrual Processes as Relates to Month End Close
  • Prepares and manages the Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations process
  • Maintains Department’s Month End Close, Reporting, and Reconciliation Checklists
  • Maintains Fixed Asset Ledger and Determination of Depreciation Expense
  • Manages the Lot HUD Closing Entry Process
  • Provides Cash Flow Forecasting Data Related to AP Disbursements
  • Initiates Rebate Billings and maintains spreadsheet and communicates with Supply Chain department on follow up items
  • Works with Banking Partners to provide financial reporting as requested
  • Performs other duties as needed or required

Results/Accountability:

  • Ensures team congruency with the True Difference
  • Ensures leadership congruency with CPP and TNL Platform
  • Completes Month End Close as directed in the Closing Checklist
  • Completes Balance Sheet Reconciliations as directed in the Reconciliations Checklist
  • Completes Monthly Financial Reporting as directed in the Reporting Checklist
  • Completes the Annual Financial Audit

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Four or more years of relevant accounting experience including financial analysis, general ledger accounting, monthly closing activities, and reasoning skills required
  • Strong Excel skills required
  • Homebuilding experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Sage Accounting preferred
  • Auditing experience a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time
