We are seeking a seasoned and proactive individual for the role of Director, Data Governance, with financial services experience to drive our data governance initiatives and ensure the integrity, quality, and security of our organization's data assets. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and processes to support our strategic objectives and regulatory compliance requirements. This role will report to the Chief Data Office at CA and will work closely with various departments to align data initiatives with business objectives, data security, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities: Data Governance Strategy
Develop and articulate the organization's data governance vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with the organization's business goals and objectives. Define data governance objectives, priorities, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Establish and implement a robust data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures. Establish governance structures, roles, and responsibilities to support effective data stewardship and accountability. Implement data stewardship programs to promote data ownership and accountability across the organization. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, and industry-specific regulations.
Data Quality Management
Establish data quality standards, metrics, and monitoring mechanisms. Collaborate with data owners and stewards to resolve data quality issues and conduct regular data audits and assessments to identify and mitigate data risks.
Data Security and Privacy
Collaborate with the IT and Security teams to define and implement data security and privacy policies, controls, and procedures, including encryption, access controls, and data masking. Ensure that data security policies and practices comply with regulatory requirements and Financial Services industry standards for wealth management and financial advisory firms. Conduct regular data security assessments and audits to identify and address vulnerabilities.
Metadata Management, Data Lineage and Traceability
Implement metadata management processes to maintain data lineage and traceability tools to track the flow of data across systems and processes. Establish data dictionaries, glossaries, and cataloging tools to facilitate metadata discovery and documentation. Ensure transparency and accountability in data usage and decision-making processes. Provide support for audit and compliance activities by maintaining detailed records of data lineage.
Data Integration
Oversee the integration of disparate data sources into a unified data platform, to ensure that both data standards and business objectives are met. Ensure seamless data flow and interoperability between systems, applications, and datasets. Collaborate with IT and Data Engineering teams to design and implement data integration solutions.
Leadership
Lead the data governance and management efforts in the organization. Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, data stewardship, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide training and support to data stewards and other stakeholders on data governance best practices. Identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business insights, innovation, and competitive advantage.
Qualifications: Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Science, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in data management, data governance, or a related field. Proven track record of developing and implementing data strategies, data roadmap, and governance frameworks. Experience in the financial services industry, particularly private investments, is highly desirable.
Skills
Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and data security practices. Proficiency in data management tools and technologies, such as data lineage tools, data quality tools, and data integration platforms. Excellent hands-on database, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders (technical and non-technical) at all levels of the organization.
Certifications
Relevant certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or DM-BOK is a plus.
