Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, and demonstrating proper technique using straight and/or butterfly needles.
Responsibilities
This location is extremely busy with phlebotomists performing 40-50 blood draws a day, with a minimum of 30. The role involves working in the front end for blood work, with the possibility of cross-training for the back area during slower periods. The back area involves processing, centrifuging, and entering data into the system for the main lab. The work environment requires the ability to keep up with a fast pace and handle difficult sticks. The candidate will work within a team of 9 employees in the front and 6 medical assistants in the cancer center. The phlebotomist will be part of a pod system, with 2 phlebotomists and 2 medical assistants per pod. Training will be provided for those without processing experience.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the venipuncture process clearly and courteously, and demonstrating proper technique using straight and/or butterfly needles.
Responsibilities
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) clearly and courteously.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.
- Accurately label and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Blood draw and blood drawing experience.
- Phlebotomy expertise with high volume blood draw experience.
- Experience using straight needles.
- Experience using centrifuges.
- Ability to measure blood pressure.
- GED or High School Diploma.
- Phlebotomy experience in a high-volume patient service center or oncology center.
- Ability to keep up with a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
- Experience with difficult sticks.
- Oncology patient experience is a plus.
- Ability to adapt and deal with different personalities.
- Good energy and positive attitude.
- Ability to limit patient sticks to no more than two attempts.
- No certification required for phlebotomy.
- No processing experience required, as training will be provided.
