About the role
The Business Development Manager will work in collaboration with the Sales team to achieve team goals and revenue objectives through strategic and tactical management, as well as the regular creation, monitoring, reporting, and actioning of KPI’s and targets. The position will be home-office based and will be responsible for the management, execution and evolution of our customer-facing activities, including customer outreach and strategic planning. The position will entail frequent contact with customers in all modalities including remote teleconferencing, phone, email, face-to-face location visits, trade shows, and group demonstrations/presentations as needed to achieve objectives. Success will require demonstrated experience and a proven record in understanding customer applications and product needs, and how our collaborations can enable their work and contribute to revenue increases. The Business Development Manager will manage, collaborate, initiate contact, and demonstrate product and service capabilities intercompany and intracompany to foster mutual customer-company benefit. They will be able to multitask and work in a fast-paced startup environment and be seeking job advancement. This position has KPI objectives for direct sales responsibilities and will report into our Commercial Director. What you'll do
Effective creation and management of the customer experience to attain team revenue objectives. Conduct weekly, quarterly, and yearly reviews of sales progress with the sales team. Pivot tactics in achievement of annual revenue objectives and KPI’s for the commercial team. Research and understand customer applications and foster collaborations. Manage and continually evolve an effective outreach cadence and forward-thinking funnel strategy. Refine expertise as needed in key customer applications and consult internally and externally with SMEs as needed. Report out weekly regarding quarterly progress and ad hoc as requested on progress of fulfillment and outreach activities. Meet Key Performance Indicators of the Business Development Manager position:
Manage and participate in Nucleus Biologics and collaborator lead-maturation activities through the sales funnel. Continue to pursue and participate in sales activities in the development of key accounts. Manage the complete sales lead cycle from initial lead through SAL to SQL, to deal closing. Drive peer activities that seek commitment from customers and thought leaders to initiate trials and execute an effective product sample and follow-up process, including quotes, agreements, and POs. Lead our activities in key societies and professional groups. Fulfill strategic initiatives as assigned. Schedule appointments for various Nucleus Biologics staff and departments, and collaborators, with customers if and when deemed appropriate. Implement and execute Marketing promotional programs as requested by the VP of Marketing. Work effectively and support strong team collaboration.
Foster efficient team collaboration with Sales, Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and other departments to accelerate closure of sales opportunities. Establish routine communication cadence with the sales team and VP of Sales to effectively evolve and pivot customer selling activities, including accurate regular reporting, CRM maintenance, and revenue-building discussions, to accelerate sales funnel and customer pipeline growth. Effective utilization, evolution, and creation of tools and processes.
Manage implementation and proper use of HubSpot CRM System. Weekly forecast updates using the CRM as a guide. Implement and adjust KPI-related activities from CRM and snapshot feedbacks. Attention to detail and entering appropriate customer content required. Qualifications
EDUCATION: BS/BA in Biology, Biotechnology, or related life science degree or BS/BA in Business Administration. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Requires 2-5 years experience in sales within a bioproduction, cell and gene therapy, or life sciences space. Experience selling custom-based products and managing a portfolio of accounts. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain productive working relationships. Strong attention to detail and competency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office and CRM. Ability to exercise independent judgment consistent with Company guidelines. PREFERRED SKILLS: Sales experience in media, buffers, or reagents. Ability to understand technical processes that involve cells and proliferation, and regularly update training. Prior cell culture experience with T-cell or stem cell. Knowledge of media and lab processes for creation of media, buffers, and reagents. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to hear and speak to employees and external associates on the phone and in person. Ability to see the letters and numbers on a personal computer screen and on memos, reports, and other documents (near vision). Ability to walk and/or drive between buildings on campus, up to .3 miles for San Diego-based positions. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: May require travel to and from Nucleus Biologics offices or customer/vendor locations based on position. Travel amount will depend on designated territory and location, but the ideal candidate is able to attend local biotech networking events.
