Tax Attorney

A law firm is seeking a highly experienced Senior Tax Attorney to join its Boston office. The ideal candidate will have over 20 years of experience in tax law, leadership skills, and a portable practice. The position involves advising clients on tax consequences, risks, and opportunities related to business entity structures and activities, as well as handling tax controversy matters. This role offers the opportunity to work across various industries and on complex commercial transactions.

Duties:

1. Provide strategic advice on the tax aspects of business structures, mergers, acquisitions, and transactions.
2. Address individual, partnership, and corporate tax issues in complex commercial transactions.
3. Structure mergers, acquisitions, business formations, and debt/equity financing.
4. Advise on employee compensation and benefits, drafting related legal documents and memoranda.
5. Manage and resolve tax controversy matters.
6. Collaborate with clients from a variety of industries, offering tailored tax solutions.

Requirements:

1. 20+ years of experience in tax law.
2. Experience in handling complex individual, partnership, and corporate tax issues.
3. Leadership skills and a portable practice (not necessarily self-sustaining).
4. Strong problem-solving abilities, with a creative approach to multidimensional legal issues.
5. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Education:

1. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

1. Admission to the State Bar of Massachusetts (required).

Skills:

1. Expertise in structuring mergers, acquisitions, and business formations.
2. Proficiency in tax law related to employee compensation and benefits.
3. Strong analytical and legal drafting skills.
4. Ability to manage complex cases and provide clear tax advice.
5. Experience in affordable housing tax credits, sales and use tax, estate planning, or qualified plans (preferred but not required).
