Chief Development Officer Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City Position Overview: Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City (BGCGKC) is seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to join our team as the

Chief Development Officer (CDO) . This is a key leadership role within the organization, responsible for securing funds to support both operating and capital needs, managing donor relations, and driving BGCGKC’s overall fundraising strategy. The CDO will collaborate closely with the CEO, Executive Team, and Board to ensure the success of the organization’s programs and services, ultimately impacting the lives of youth across the Kansas City area. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & Strategic Planning

Lead BGCGKC’s fundraising strategy, with a goal to secure budgeted annual operating support capital support, when appropriate. Develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising plan that aligns with BGCGKC’s mission and priorities, while establishing clear and achievable campaign goals. Provide regular updates to the CEO, Executive Team, and Board on fundraising progress, financial performance, and benchmarking metrics.

Resource Development

Oversee and manage annual giving campaigns, fundraising events, major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, public grants, marketing and visibility efforts, stewardship programs, and capital campaigns. Cultivate, solicit, and steward a diverse portfolio of donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. Ensure a balanced and diversified revenue stream, focusing on long-term sustainability and legacy giving to secure BGCGKC’s financial future. Oversight of grant writing and reporting. Oversight of volunteer programs.

Board Development & Engagement

Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to recruit, develop, and engage board members who are dedicated to BGCGKC’s mission and fundraising goals. Lead the development of tools, strategies, and processes to support effective board governance, recruitment, and engagement. Oversee function and direction of Resource Development Committee and various Advisory Boards; Participate on other Board Committees. Assist with the recruitment of advisory board members in key communities across the greater Kansas City area.

Marketing & Public Relations

Along with Senior Director of Marketing, develop and execute an annual marketing and communications plan to increase BGCGKC’s visibility and brand recognition in the community. Foster relationships with local media outlets and community influencers to amplify awareness of BGCGKC’s mission and initiatives. Oversee the creation and distribution of promotional materials, including social media, email campaigns, newsletters, and website content.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy

Lead efforts to identify and engage new prospects and donors through database analysis and external philanthropic research. Serve as a primary spokesperson and ambassador for BGCGKC, advocating for the organization’s mission and vision. Build and maintain long-term relationships with key stakeholders and donors to ensure continued support for BGCGKC.

Staff Management & Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing development team, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture. Implement a comprehensive development plan to exceed fundraising goals, ensuring successful team performance and engagement. Promote and uphold a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the development team and across the organization.

Qualifications: Education & Experience

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred). A minimum of 8 years of experience in fundraising, donor development, and nonprofit management, preferably in an organization with a mission-driven focus such as a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth-serving organization. Strong relationships in the community. Proven success in securing major gifts and managing a comprehensive donor portfolio. Demonstrated expertise in developing and managing annual giving programs, capital campaigns, and corporate partnerships.

Skills & Abilities

Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills. Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft compelling donor materials and deliver impactful presentations. Collaborative and team-oriented, with a proven ability to work effectively with staff, board members, and donors. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, donor management software, and digital marketing tools such as Constant Contact, Facebook, Instagram, and others. Experienced in managing and analyzing donor databases and fundraising metrics to ensure continued growth. Problem-solving and creative
