Role Summary:

The Senior Accountant is an integral member of the Finance and Accountability Department [FAD] and supports the Controller in the day-to-day accounting process reviews and daily monitoring of receipts and disbursements and all banking transactions are kept confidential and recorded intact daily.

Essential Duties: Validates and confirms daily cash receipts and disbursements postings onto MIP Fund Accounting. Tracks daily cash receipts and disbursements and prepares CASH Report. Leads month-end closing due the 10th of each month - receipts, revenue, collections, payables, expense reports and credit card purchases. Reviews monthly billing accruals and posts entries by the 15th of the month. Analyzes joint cost allocation and prepares adjusting entries by 10th of each month. Posts patient service prepared by RCM by the 10th of each month. Uploads, analyzes and posts payroll and related entries timely onto Sage/Abila MIP fund accounting timely semi-monthly, 7th and 22nd. Analyzes ADP tax liabilities prepared by payroll manager and reconciles with bank entries and ensures multi-jurisdiction tax returns are adhered to [IL-GA-MO-CA]. Analyzes balance sheet accounts by creating monthly schedules reconciling to general ledger. Validates expenses are charged to appropriate line items allowed by contractual obligations. Maintains fixed asset register, general ledger, insurance, contracts and bank records. Supports the payable/disbursements accountant on annual 1099 MISC/NEC reporting due Jan 31. Supports the Controller in filing annual state compliance reports (hazardous waste, environmental fees, welfare tax benefit exemption, sales taxes on UBI). Prepares reconciliation for all bank accounts, investments and obligations, including entries. Prepares journal entries for accruals and deferrals as needed (i.e., salaries, PTO, depreciation, insurance, security rent deposits, contract advances, settlements). Monitors and tracks BMO's positive pay transactions daily along with the payable's accountant. Reviews bank deposits, credits, and direct debits are posted intact daily. Initiates HRSA 330e drawdown within 72 hours of occurrence or payment, promptly notifies the approver and maintains real-time drawdowns transactions and documentations. Promotes transparency and fiscal accountability implementing proper accounting methods, policies, adhering to Fiscal policies and funding requirements. Improves systems and procedures, initiates corrective actions and recommends solutions. Supports the Controller in quarterly fiscal accountability training and contract financial performance review with programs and contract funded undertakings. Supports the Controller in year-end financial and single audits ensuring all schedules and analyzes requested by the audit team is fully documented, reviewed and reconciled to the general ledger. Supports the controller in all contract reviews and audits and the annual financial-single audits. Backs-up payroll processing and accounting transactions when required. Other projects & tasks as assigned by the Controller and/or the CFO.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting is a

must , some certification in related fields is desirable. 3+ years relevant experience in a community based nonprofit organizations with $10+Million in government contracts or $20+Million operating budget or 5+ years as a full cycle accountant. Thorough knowledge and adherence to the generally accepted accounting principles [GAAP] and government audit standards [GAS]. Advanced computer skills on MS Office, accounting software and databases preferably Sage/Abila MIP, ADP and master level in excel. Demonstrates accuracy, completeness and timeliness [ACT]. Ability to translate accounting and fiscal control concepts to all levels in the FAD team and other non-financial employees. Must obtain TB clearance (within past 12 months) and complete background check upon hire. Current with vaccinations including 2024 Covid-19 vaccine and 2024 flu vaccination, and able to provide proof.

Preferred: Experience working in an FQHC or other type of Community Health Center.
