About the TeamThe Williams-Sonoma ECommerce Engineering organization is seeking an energetic and talented Staff Software Engineer to help deliver high value, high quality features to our industry leading eCommerce sites.  At Williams-Sonoma we build 15 of the retail industry’s leading websites comprised of eight inspirational marketing concepts in the U.S.A and Canada - Williams-Sonoma, west elm, Mark and Graham, Green Row, Rejuvenation and the Pottery Barn family. Engineers working at WSI get to work across the entire functional domain.  About the RoleThe Staff Software Engineer, Front End in the Ecommerce organization will focus on front-end user experiences on our brand eCommerce websites.  This role will work to extend our beautiful front-end user experiences all the way through to enterprise services and other server-side features.  You will work closely with multiple Scrum teams building platform capabilities, features and automated tests of those features.   You will also collaborate with other Engineers, Architects, Engineering Managers and Product Managers to define the design and delivery approach for impactful strategic programs. Responsibilities  Work with Architecture to craft technical designs and drive the evolution of our site architectureWork in tandem with multiple groups to strategize and prioritize next generation product initiatives, develop processes and solutions, and drive projects to completionDevelop strong working relationships across levels and functionsFacilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in relevant areasDrive change, including programs that improve developer productivity and reduce time to marketAssist Product Managers in designing and defining new featuresWrite code that is of high quality and consistent with our coding standardsWrite automated tests of new features to ensure they are of very high qualityReview the work of other engineers in a collegial fashion to ensure the work product is of high quality and consistent with our standardsParticipate in, and potentially lead, Communities-of-Practice in those technologies in which you have an interestParticipate in continuous education programs to grow your skills both technically and in the Williams-Sonoma business domainServe as a member of a Scrum team and participate in all planning, stand-up and retrospective meetingsLead multiple projects with material technical risk teams and processes; may serve as a functional lead or technical ownerCriteria 10+ years of experience as a professional software engineerBachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience Experience with frontend development tools and libraries (e.g. Vue.js, Jest, eslint, prettier, Webpack)Experience working with sophisticated application state (e.g. Vuex, Redux or similar)Experience implementing complex UI with CSS, responsive web design, animation, orchestration and responsivenessExperience building pixel-perfect, robust, performant and accessible user interfaces on the webExperience with frontend performance improvement tools and techniquesEnthusiasm for constant improvement as a Software Engineer and understanding of software development best practicesAbility to review and critique proposed designs and offer thoughtful feedback in a collegial fashionSkilled in writing and presenting – able to craft needed messages so they are clearly expressed and easily understoodAbility to work independently on complex problems of diverse complexity and scopeAbility to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including Senior Leadership This role requires being onsite in the San Francisco, CA or Rocklin, CA office Monday through Thursday and Friday as optional in the officeOur Culture & Values We believe that taking care of our people is vital to our success and we strive to offer equitable and transparent practices for all. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
