ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  1. Develops and maintains department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines and/or HNL policies.
  2. Provides technical expertise, continuing education and training to all staff within a designated clinical operations area.
  3. Assists in the ongoing departmental monitoring to improve quality, work flow, staff productivity and employee satisfaction.
  4. Prepares or directs preparation of various qualitative and quantitative reports and records.
  5. Provides support regarding financial reports to Finance upon request in conjunction with division manager/director.
  6. Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments within the field.
  7. Coordinates and reviews testing results as required by assigned team.
  8. May act as the Director of the HNL Phlebotomy School or other HNL initiatives.
  9. Performs verification/validation studies on new instrumentation and provides technical guidance and resolves problems associated with instrumentation
  10. Establishes performance checks, preventative maintenance, and quality control programs for all instruments as well as evaluates quality control data and institutes corrective action as needed.
  11. Prepares and revises laboratory procedure manuals and provides technical in-service and orientation of new staff and develops training/competency checklists and provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students and current employees.

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or a combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.

Math Ability:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word processing software; Excel spreadsheet software; Order entry systems and Sunquest and/or Co-Path laboratory software.

Certificates and Licenses:

Certification by a recognized certifying agency for Clinical Laboratory Professionals preferred (ASCP, ASMT, NCA, etc.)
