Laboratory Specialist
The Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a Laboratory Specialist to join the CAT (Center for Antibody Therapeutics)lab. The lab's focus is on identification and characterization of antibodies by using the phage display technology. The Laboratory Specialist will perform routine lab work including the basic molecular and cell biology experiments, including but not limited to: molecular subcloning, plasmids extraction, protein expression and purification; cell culture, viability assays, flow cytometry; ELISA, SPR; protein biophysical property characterization. The knowledge of basic immunology about antibody structure and function is preferred, but not a must.
Some specific job duties expected in this position include:
* Performing a variety of laboratory experiments such as histology, flow cytometry, molecular techniques, gene sequencing, and related technical functions, testing, troubleshooting, and analysis, including microsurgical procedures, and ensuring conformity to specifications.
* Identifying and preparing specimens such as isolation of human PBMCs from blood.
* Overseeing supply management: ordering, procurement, tracking estimates, and receiving items.
* Operating and maintaining applicable laboratory equipment for job functions.
* Keeping detailed, accurate, and timely data and log books. Organizing and documenting results.

Essential FunctionsThis position requires a high level of mobility, manual dexterity, logistical/organizational planning, visual acuity, and basic computer skills.
Physical EffortThis position requires that the applicant travel between laboratories, campus buildings, and to sit or stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
