The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has one opening for an Electrician, in Lansing, MI, as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.
Pay Rate: $52.45
Position Summary:
Responsible for installation and maintenance of a wide variety of components associated with power distribution, substations, and general electrical maintenance at all BWL production facilities including but not limited to: REO Town, Delta Energy Park, Erickson Station, Dye Water, Wise Road facilities and all substations.
Essential Functions:
- Must have or acquire the ability to install and maintain breakers, transformers, switches, tap changers, on 138KV, and on potentially energized voltages of 13.2KV 480-V and lighting systems.
- Installs and repairs electric motors and controls. Installs electric conduit and cable.
- Installs and maintains DC battery system.
- Works on computer equipment installations.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear required personal protective equipment.
- Must attend training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
- Must be able to respond to code calls or other emergencies within the production facility.
- Performs other duties as required or necessitated by job responsibilities.
Required:
- Journeyworker certification as electrician and experience working in commercial and/or industrial installations required.
- Candidate must have experience on three-phase 480-volt distribution systems and motor connections.
- Experience with primary cable terminations; installation, operation, and maintenance of high-voltage switchgear.
- Must be respirator and CPR/First Aid certified within one (1) month of hire.
- Will be required to work overtime, on-call and any shift, not necessarily with Saturdays and Sundays off.
- Candidate must be familiar with LOTO (Lock - Out - Tag - Out) and clearance procedures.
- DC battery services experience preferred.
- Lift boxes, conduit, cable, panels, and controllers weighing up to fifty pounds.
- Considerable standing and walking.
- Work involves bending; crouching, kneeling, while making installations.
- Frequently work from ladders and platforms; must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
- Must have good visual acuity to read blueprints and to make proper cable terminations.
- Must have good hearing to communicate in noisy environments and to locate source of electrical problems.
- Must occasionally work in confined and enclosed spaces and wear respirator.
- All temperature and humidity ranges.
