GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Electrician I (Electrician Helper) - Performs moderately complex (journey-level) work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and circuits for the Texas Department of Public Safety. Work involves installing, replacing, and maintaining electrical systems, apparatus, components of machinery, and equipment. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Electrician II (Electrical Apprentice) - Perform complex (journey-level) work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits for the Department of Public Safety. Work involves installing, replacing, and maintaining electrical systems, apparatus, control panels, fixtures, equipment and other electrical components, to maintain electrical systems and to diagnose and repair operating problems of electrical components. May train others. Work under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Electrician III (Journeyman Electrician) - Performs advanced (senior-level) work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits. Work involves coordinating the installation, replacement, and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, components of machinery, and equipment. May serve as a lead worker providing direction to others. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Electrician IV (Master Electrician) - Performs highly advanced (senior-level) work in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and circuits. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Electrician I (Electrician Helper):
1. Assist in installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of high voltage electrical equipment, transformer wiring and distribution panels.
2. Assist in installing rigid, thin wall, and flexible conduit, and wire circuits.
3. Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to electrical outlets, control panels, switches, fixtures and accessories, and cleans and tightens low-voltage switch gears.
4. Replace and reseat brushes on motors, splice wires and cables and adjust related parts and equipment; and mount motors, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and complete circuits.
5. Isolate defects in wiring, circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements, and replace faulty circuit breakers, fuses, switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems.
6. Inspect, test, and troubleshoot electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits.
7. Document and report completed installations, maintenance and repairs, the supplies, materials and equipment used, and work time applied to assigned work orders and projects.
8. Assist in diagnosing and correcting the cause of system malfunctions and to verify the integrity and reliability of connections made and of circuits, components and fixtures installed.
9. Assist in the maintenance and renovation of electrical service.
10. Read vendor brochures, manuals and other materials and attends training sessions to keep knowledge of technological changes in electrical equipment up-to-date.
11. Reset controls for power outages.
12. Oversight of outside contractors performing services for the agency.
13. Maintenance of shop vehicles.
14. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Electrician II (Electrical Apprentice):
1. Install, repair and maintain electrical systems, apparatus, circuits, and electrical components of high voltage electrical equipment, transformer wiring and distribution panels.

9. Read vendor brochures, trade periodicals, manuals and other materials and attends training sessions to keep knowledge of technological changes in electrical equipment up-to-date.

Qualifications:
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS
Education -
Electrician I: Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent plus or including vocational training (or other structured electrical code training that documents the content of electrical code learned).
Electrician II-IV: Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent plus or including vocational training in electricity and electrical code subjects.
Experience -
Electrician I: Minimum of one (1) year work experience in general maintenance repair and service in commercial and or industrial facilities.
Electrician II: Minimum of two (2) years' progressively responsible experience in installing, maintaining and repairing complex commercial or industrial electrical systems or equipment.
Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the type described may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Electrician III: Minimum of four (4) years' experience performing installation, maintenance and repair of complex commercial or industrial electrical systems or equipment. One (1) year experience troubleshooting, testing, diagnosing, adjusting, repairing and servicing a variety of emergency standby generators preferred. Working knowledge of electricity, the principles, practices, materials, equipment, tools and instruments applicable to the electrical trade. Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

Licensure and/or Certification -
Electrician I: Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Apprentice Electrician License will be required within 30 days of employment. Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence and automobile insurance.

Skill in operating a variety of test instruments, meters and recorders, and hand and power tools applicable to the electrical trade. Ability to calculate and design safe and efficient electrical circuits and to safely and effectively install and repair electrical equipment with and without flowing current.
Electrician II-IV: Thorough knowledge of electricity, the principles, practices, materials, equipment, tools, and instruments applicable to the electrical trade in commercial/industrial environments. Thorough knowledge of engineering/architectural and schematic drawings of electrical systems and of their symbols. Some knowledge of basic computer electronics. Thorough knowledge of engineering/architectural and schematic drawings of electrical systems and of their symbols. Some knowledge of basic computer electronics. Skill in operating a variety of test instruments, meters and recorders, and hand and power tools applicable to the electrical trade. Ability to calculate and design electrical circuits in compliance with National Electric Code and NFPA Fire Code standards. Ability to read and understand complex engineering, architectural and schematic drawings of electrical systems and to draw such systems in schematic form to document accomplished tasks

Technology - (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) - Must be able to submit and complete work orders in Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS). Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.

Travel and/or Schedule - Availability for after-hour and weekend work is required.
