Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of custom machines, automation systems, and equipment tailored to client specifications and operational needs.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and assembly instructions for mechanical components, subassemblies, and systems.
- Collaborate with electrical, control, and automation engineers to design integrated systems, ensuring seamless functionality and performance.
- Analyze mechanical systems for functionality, reliability, and manufacturability, ensuring designs meet industry standards and customer requirements.
- Develop system specifications, write technical reports, and provide support for project documentation.
- Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical design, including prototype development, testing, and troubleshooting in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and ease of integration into existing production lines or facilities.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Oversee design validation, commissioning, and integration of custom machines and automated systems at customer sites.
- Maintain a focus on continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to streamline design processes, reduce costs, and enhance machine performance.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field preferred, equivalent experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a focus on custom machine design, automation systems, and manufacturing solutions.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar), with experience in creating detailed machine designs and assemblies.
- Hands-on experience designing automated systems, robotic equipment, and complex machinery.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, including structural analysis, motion control, material selection, and heat transfer.
- Experience in designing for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) and knowledge of common manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication).
- Familiarity with industrial automation concepts, control systems, and integration of mechanical components with electrical and software systems.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve design, mechanical, or automation issues during development and implementation.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
- Experience with PLCs, robotics, or motion control systems.
- Knowledge of industry standards for automation and mechanical design (e.g., ISO, ANSI, NFPA).
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role.
- Experience with machine safety standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 13849, OSHA).
