Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health Crafts-Farrow, 7901 Farrow Rd, Columbia, SC 29203.

As the General Maintenance Technician III, working under general supervision of the Supply Manager II or Supply Manager I, you will maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients located on Inpatient campus. Evaluates intermediate maintenance work requirements as completed. Plans, coordinates and supervises work accomplished and all other related Supply and Support Services as required to ensure quality care for the Northeast, Crafts Farrow State Hospital facilities. Provides liaison support between Inpatient Nursing, Support Staff and Materials Management.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Supervises General Maintenance Technician I, to include monitoring work schedule for planning and coordinating of assigned projects.
  • Evaluates and prioritizes routine work orders of all S5-C requisitions for interior, intermediate work projects for Inpatient, Northeast campus.
  • Monitors the completion of priority and routine work orders identified during Environmental Rounds in assigned facilities to include painting, spackling, patching, priming and repair of walls.
  • Supervises the installation of wall covering items. to include bulletin boards, sound boards and pictures for Inpatient Services.
  • Purchases or orders all supplies and materials required to accomplish assigned projects. Assists as needed with survey requests for renovations/ changes to buildings before submission to DMH.
  • Assists DMH I Inpatient Services Program Administrators by directly handling priority projects related to DMH concerns and plan of actions regarding building usage and condition.
  • Assists in renovating patient care areas to comply with Safety Inspections.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

High school diploma and trades experience related to the area of employment. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis for basis.
Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Additional Comments

The selected candidate must maintain confidentiality with patient, employees and department information. Must have the ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, bend, climb stairs, move from one area-building to another and lift fifty (50) pounds. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. May be required to work additional hours in support of patient care and staff during emergency and hazardous weather conditions. Must possess ability to log onto computer and compose and respond emails. Ability to communicate effectively with Supervisory and Immediate staff.
