Job Responsibilities

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, Morris Village, 620 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.

As a Administrative Specialist in in the Admissions Department for Morris Village Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center (MV), you will be working under minimal supervision, perform a variety of advanced secretarial and administrative duties involved in the operation of Morris Village Admissions. Adhere to written and unwritten policies, some of which could have a significant impact on related facilities/programs and the department. Provide direct patient care services during the admission process as well as escorting patients to their assigned cottages.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Assists with patient direct care services (i.e., observation while in MV Admissions).
  • Answers facility telephones promptly and professionally at all times .
  • Receives incoming admission referrals daily and process each one as directed.
  • Upon the patient's arrival, reviews the admission documents for accuracy.
  • Receives and posts discharge information regarding patients who have been discharged by the hospital or Probate Court and/or General Sessions Court
  • Demonstrates cultural competences.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma. Related clerical experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.

Agency Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience, OR an associate degree in Secretarial Science or a related field, OR three (3) years of clerical experience. Selected positions may require the ability to type at the corrected rate of 35 words per minute.
