The Traffic Signals Technician provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity within the Public Works Department with plenty of room for learning and growth within the Traffic Engineering Division. The Traffic Signals Technician is responsible for the installation and maintenance of electronic traffic control devices; responds to emergency situations regarding traffic signals, school zone flashers and street lights; assists in training signal crew members. Work is performed with limited supervision. Performs other duties and on-call situations. Must be able to work at heights from 6 to 55 feet. General Description Assembles, installs, services, tests, repairs and adjusts electrical and mechanical components of traffic signal and related equipment. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires one (1) year in electrical maintenance work or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses: A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Permit

is required at the time of hire. A valid "Class B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement must be obtained

within six (6) months

of hire and maintained for the duration of appointment. Preferences Associates Degree or higher in relevant field Possession of an IMSA Level II and/or Level III certificate. At least two (2) years of experience in traffic signals maintenance work. The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class.
