Primary Responsibilities: Daily review Email and specifically Networking Email Alerts Daily review the SolarWinds Network Maps for oddities Research any Network Email Alerts that might be related to outages by the following priority
Dark Fiber / NCS ports COX Backbone Circuits COX Peering Circuits ISP Circuits Other Questionable Alerts potentially due to maintenance windows or outages
Run Point on Circuit issues or Hardware Tickets Document carrier Maintenance Alerts on the Architecture Calendar (email) Maintain Networking Standard Operation Procedures Maintain Documentation about circuits Perform Standard Network Maintenances (i.e. routers, switches, firewalls, load-balancers, etc…) Review and Understand Networking documentation Understand the RapidScale Network Infrastructure Able to train other Engineers on Network Ops topics Lead Priority one calls as needed and provide support on escalated cases when necessary. Review entire environment and execute initiatives to reduce failures, defects, and improve overall performance. Work with other Cloud and Network Architects to provide support, drive initiatives and complete projects in a timely manner. Change the network configurations as needed for optimal security and or connectivity Perform network configuration work across multiple data center and multiple customer environments in multi-tenant clouds Configure monitoring and backups of network devices Coordinate carrier moves, changes, maintenance, troubleshooting connections. Execute network-related initiatives to reduce failures, defects, and improve overall performance Assist internal and external customers with troubleshooting of the RapidScale networks Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 4 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and 1 year of experience; or 10 years’ experience in a related field Requires strong knowledge of Network Infrastructure implementation, operation, & upgrades on network devices such as: Firewalls, Switches, Routers, & Load Balancers A proven level of expertise & competence with network and infrastructure design, implementation & operation Ability to demonstrate a high level of competency in managing technical projects Willingness to work on a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule Excellent communication, presentation, writing, and editorial abilities. Works well with others and is able to collaborate, delegate and coach other team members Operates effectively in a fast-paced, positive, high-energy environment with strong deadlines and quick response times. Knowledge of Network Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP, HSRP) Preferred Qualifications: Spine and Leaf Arista and Cisco network devices FortiGate firewalls Scripting (PowerShell, PowerCLI, Perl, Batch) VPN configuration Experience Cisco UCS VMware Experience (vSphere, NSX, vCD, ESXi) SNMP Syslog Optical Transport Experience SD-WAN
