ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this position is to develop and implement an activity program in compliance with the State and Federal requirements to meet residents’ individual psychosocial needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be certified as an Activity Director from a State approved program.
Skilled at organizing various duties.
Must be flexible and able to handle change easily and professionally.
Must have the ability to listen to others and be creative in meeting those needs.
Maintain a positive attitude.
Communicate with residents, families and staff in a professional and tactful manner.
Be a role model of professionalism and teamwork.
Completion of secondary education and must be able to read and write in a legible and understandable manner.
Experience with the geriatric patient and the long-term care setting.
Must maintain regular attendance. Must be flexible in work hours to offer adequate representation at events.
Must meet all local health regulations, and pass post-employment physical exam if required.
Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB (with or without assistance):
Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing and pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages, ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and consultants; and the ability to remain calm under stress.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, schedule and implement a program of individual and group activities based on residents’ individual needs, including creating a monthly activity calendar and posting calendars in resident preferred areas timely.
Assess and complete the sections of the MDS assigned completely, timely and accurately.
Use the resident assessment protocols (RAPs) to determine whether to proceed to care planning for concerns related to a resident’s activity program needs.
Gather data and document required assessments.
Identify and document in the residents’ care plan, the activity interests, needs, and concerns of the resident.
Document and maintain an activity participation records for each resident.
Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary team and attend resident care conferences.
Provide in-service education programs and attend all in-service sessions relating to Activity Program.
Recruit, schedule and supervise volunteers.
Organize and schedule community events related to residents’ interests.
Plan, schedule and implement room visits and in-room activities for residents unable to leave their rooms. Document the in-room visits.
Plan, schedule and implement activities for residents who prefer to direct their own activity program and make accessible supplies for those activities.
Plan, schedule and implement indoor and outdoor activity programs.
Assess needs and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs.
Observe infection control procedures related to the Activity Program, including identification related to residents not appropriate to attend out-of-the room activity programs for health reasons.
Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.
Follow all facility policies and procedures.
Follow Residents Rights policies at all times.
To perform other duties as requested by management.
