Principal Systems Engineer - Ballistic Missile Defense Subject Matter Expert (BMD SME)

in Huntsville, AL. In this role you will facilitate the modeling, simulation, and analyses of future concepts that shape the future of the Missile Defense System (MDS) and respond to Warfighter needs. Job Description: Facilitate the definition of future concepts for modeling, simulation, and analysis. Act as a subject matter expert in future concept definition, architecture analyses, and reviewing preliminary results prior to delivery to customer. Assess MDS threats, capability gaps, challenges, needs and opportunities, and develop potential system mitigations and capability revolutions and evolutions at the architecture level. Support modeling & simulation (M&S) efforts related to the above, including analysis efforts on DoD High Performance Computing (HPC). Develop analysis plans, run M&S to execute the analysis plan, perform analysis on the results, prepare analysis reports, and provide reviews of analysis products. Qualifications: Must have a Master's Degree in STEM Field with 12+ years of experience in missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program/project. Must be able to work independently and/or lead teams to analyze and resolve problems. Must have the capability to develop and clearly present reports and presentations to senior management-level personnel. Must be proficient in Microsoft tools, e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word. Must be a proactive, self-starter. Must have extensive experience in the modeling, assessment, and evaluation of future missile defense architectures. Must have a deep understanding of the current MDS architecture and future concepts. Desired Qualifications: Active TS/SCI Clearance, preferred. Experience with the definition and use of advanced concepts and algorithms for the M&S of MDS architectures, preferred. Experience with M&S and analysis of MDS architectures involving both directed and kinetic energy weapons and other future concepts, preferred. Ability to develop and use MDS architecture simulations; knowledge of MATLAB and/or Python is a plus, including HPC experience and/or MBSE experience, preferred. Ability to perform technology assessment & analysis and provide insight on the utility of potentially useful technologies, preferred. Experience with multidisciplinary analysis and optimization environments, including analysis of diverse physical phenomena, preferred. Specialized MDS analysis experience in: threat characterization, trajectories, RF sensing/signatures, and/or EO/IR sensing/signatures, preferred. Proven ability to coauthor numerous reports and provide significant contributions to MDS studies and responses to Congress, preferred. Experience with Cyber gaps, mitigations, and future Cyber Architecture development. Experience serving as a key advisor and collaborating on products that may go outside the Agency, such as DoD, Services, Combatant Commands, industry experts, etc., preferred. Strong communication skills to include oral, written and briefing, preferred. Works independently, applying engineering rigor to analyze and resolve problems within a fast-paced, dynamic environment, preferred. Ability to present complex information and concepts to Leaders at various levels, preferred. Security Requirements: Active DoD Secret clearance required with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI. Travel Requirements: Up to 10%. If position requires travel by domestic flight or access to secure federal facilities/military bases, candidate must be able to obtain (by start of position) and maintain appropriate identification credentials, such as REAL ID. Physical Requirements: Must be able to work in an office environment. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods, moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another, communicating with others to exchange information, repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers, light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
