Lab Assistant II - LAB - Preston Memorial Hospital

POSITION SUMMARY
o Primary duty is to perform specimen collection and processing, obtaining acceptable specimens per protocol consistent with age-specific needs and established laboratory guidelines, as requested by the provider.
o Utilize hospital software systems to manage patient orders, enter data, and obtain information.
o Performs clerical activities for the operations of the laboratory, which include but are not limited to answering phones, scanning documents, and faxing results.
o Stock and maintain supplies and inventories.
o Performs test analysis pertaining to diagnostic tests defined as waived and moderately complexity, under direct supervision.
o Possess and apply working knowledge of quality control and assurance guidelines by following established policy and procedures.
o Detect basic problems and perform limited preventive maintenance and required documentation, under direct supervision, on laboratory equipment.
o Report incidents/potential incidents to immediate supervisor and assists in the thorough completion of incident reports in a timely manner.
o Provides coverage on a flexible schedule basis (on-call and emergency situations) as necessary to ensure proper staffing for laboratory workload and other laboratory associated activities.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
o A minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
o Graduated from an accredited phlebotomy, lab assistant, or medical assistant program preferred.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
o West Virginia Clinical Laboratory Practitioner Trainee License or West Virginia Clinical Laboratory Point of Care Technician License (Within Probationary Period).
EXPERIENCE
o Previous experience in phlebotomy and basic computer skills are preferred.
