Purpose of Position The Development Director will be responsible for developing and executing strategies to increase donor engagement, retention, and growth. This role involves managing relationships with existing donors, identifying and cultivating new donors, and creating and implementing fundraising campaigns to support the mission and programs of Blind Early Services TN. The ideal candidate is a passionate advocate for our cause, with strong communication and relationship-building skills. Reports to the Executive Director of Finance and Operations and serves as part of the Leadership team. Duties and Responsibilities Donor Engagement and Stewardship: Develop and implement strategies for donor retention and growth. Cultivate and maintain relationships with individual donors, corporations, and foundations. Create personalized stewardship plans for major donors. Plan and execute donor recognition initiatives and/or events. Fundraising Campaigns: Design, implement, and manage annual fundraising campaigns, including online giving and multiple special events. Develop compelling fundraising materials and communication strategies. Collaborate with the Fundraising Chair and Leadership team to promote campaigns and events. Grant Writing and Management: Research, identify, and pursue grant opportunities to secure funding for programs and operations. Write, submit, and manage grant proposals and reports, ensuring compliance with funder guidelines. Track grant deadlines, deliverables, and outcomes to ensure timely submission and reporting. Prospect Research and Cultivation: Identify and research potential donors and funding opportunities. Develop and implement strategies to engage and cultivate new donor prospects. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions and contributions. Data Management and Reporting: Maintain donor database and ensure accurate record-keeping. Generate regular reports on fundraising progress and donor engagement. Analyze data to inform and improve fundraising strategies. Develop and monitor special event and annual departmental budget. Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with Co-Founders and Board of Directors to develop and achieve fundraising goals. Maintain strong communication with Co-Founders, Board of Directors and donors. Lead and mentor fundraising volunteers and interns. Participate in strategic planning and contribute to organizational growth. Oversee the Development and Marketing Associate’s coordination of ongoing and one-time projects. Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree. Two to three years in development; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Certification in Fundraising a plus. Skills and Qualifications Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in basic computer skills including Google Suite and MS Office. Proficient in cloud-based design software such as Canva or Adobe. Experience with or ability to learn donor management software and CRM systems. Comfortable with calendars, databases, and general office equipment. A successful track record in setting priorities. Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making. Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. A creative mind with an ability to suggest improvements; strong common sense. Knowledge of the local philanthropic community and major donors. Ability to thrive in a start-up environment. Ability to function as part of a team and take direction while also being able to work independently. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Creative, self-starter attitude with service mentality. Passion for the mission of Blind Early Services TN and commitment to improving the lives of children with visual impairments.
