Waste Services is responsible for weekly curbside waste and every other week curbside recycling collection for over 143,000 customers in the urban services district as well as collection of over 200 public litter baskets in the downtown Nashville corridor. The division also operates four convenience centers where residents of Davidson County can bring waste, recycling, bulk items, food waste, household hazardous waste, and other items for recycling or disposal and eight recycling drop-off locations available to residents who do not qualify for curbside recycling collection. Waste Services currently employs 119 staff members working in collection, administration, customer service, education, landfill engineering, development review, and zero waste. *Must submit a resume along with a fully completed online application. * Typical Duties Performs Human Resources duties in employee relations to solve complex issues and provides technical assistance in HR functional areas to ensure consistency and equity in policy and practice. Investigates claims of discrimination and harassment, prepares reports of findings and makes recommendations for action; also investigates employee complaints and formal grievances. Coaches supervisors and line employees regarding employment-related policies, procedures, rules, laws, and regulations. Collects, enters, and organizes various forms of Human Resources data. Keeps HR Manager informed of personnel matters and provides information and data to assist with planning and decision making. Assists with coordinating recruitment activities such as posting positions, monitoring the interview process. Assists with coordinating Metro’s required employee training. Coordinates employee onboarding and separation paperwork and processing; Responsible for conducting New Hire Orientation (NHO) Assists the safety coordinator with new employee training and HR manager for professional development of staff. Assist managers, supervisors and employees in the interpretation and applications of Civil Services Rules and Policies and Departmental Rules and Policies. Verification of employment both verbal and written. Maintains and Enter data in a HRIS related to substance abuse results, immunizations and IOD injuries and leave. Assist employees with FMLA and Short-Term Disability paperwork. Checks and maintains records which include personnel files. Identifies personnel concerns and recommends solutions. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. No Substitution Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
