EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Associates degree in Nursing or biological science or related experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Licensed as a registered nurse, respiratory therapist, paramedic, or applicable experience and related training preferred. 2. Minimum of one year of critical care experience. 3. Must obtain and maintain ACLS and PALS certification within one year of employment. 4. Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly. 5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required. 6. Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload. 7. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft, or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides on-call coverage for organ and tissue donation 2. Provides assessment of organ and tissue donors. Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive plan of care for complex patients to achieve successful organ and tissue donation under guidance of preceptor. 3. Provides input and assists in the facilitation of the referral/donor process, and the organ recovery process using knowledge of critical care principles such as hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and administration of critical care medications under guidance of preceptor 4. Completes required organ and/or tissue donor documentation in a timely manner under guidance of preceptor. 5. Obtain authorization and medical social history screening of organ and tissue donors, as needed under guidance of preceptor. 6. Applies age-specific patient management for heart, liver, kidney, pancreas, small intestine, and lung donors under guidance of preceptor. 7. Allocates organs in compliance with STA and OPTN policy under guidance of preceptor. 8. Assists the Surgical Services Coordinators in the operating room with organ preservation and organ labeling & packaging under guidance of preceptor. 9. Communicates with hospital services to ensure effective donor follow-up under guidance of preceptor. 10. Attends Designated Requestor training annually 11. Other duties as assigned.

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

(These "non-essential job functions" represent job functions which the incumbent is responsible for performing. However, if necessary, these job functions could be performed by other personnel.) 1. Represent Southwest Transplant Alliance with national and regional procurement and transplant organizations. 2. Independently provides clinical training and education to hospital staff as requested by Hospital Services. 3. Collaborates with Hospital Services for death record review and hospital education as requested. 4. Works with hospitals, staff, and the public to assure that appropriate patients and families are provided the opportunity of organ and tissue donation.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment, travel in light and commercial aircraft, or automobile in order to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position.

OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 1 - The incumbent in this position has potential for occupational exposure.

EQUIPMENT USED: The incumbent is required to use various pieces of office equipment. Appropriate orientation to the equipment is provided.

OTHER: The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy.
