Engineer I, Battery Cell

Title: Battery Cell Engineer

Reports to: Senior Manager, Research & Development

Location: Troy, MI

Responsibilities:
  • Work with and support internal teams to design, develop, validate and manufacture Li-ion batteries for automotive applications.
  • Actively participate in meeting deliverables to internal teams and customers
  • Works with parent company's cell team to procure, analyze and archive cell data relevant to customer projects and then shares with the various functional teams such as BMS (battery management system), pack and validation
  • Defect analysis of batteries to identify root cause, report preparation, risk assessment and work plan
  • Work with process/production engineers at the manufacturing plant to improve productivity/ solve cell design related items
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
    1. Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
    2. Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent, relevant experience
  • 1 to 3+ years of experience working in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co-op, entry level job role, or similar
  • Prior experience in research and development/production of Lithium Ion battery technologies highly preferred
Skills
  • MS office, Minitab, Origin
  • Hands on training in battery materials synthesis, cell fabrication, characterization and analysis is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with battery modeling and simulation is desired
