Job Overview
Datalytica is seeking an Advanced Energy Technical Advisor to support DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) on an exciting program involving advanced battery chemistry and energy systems. The ideal candidate will have a PhD or Master's Degree with 1-2 years experience in Battery Chemistry or Engineering, along with an active DoD Secret Clearance.
As a Technical Advisor, you will provide strategic oversight and technical guidance to research teams working on high-rate carbon dioxide chemical reduction processes and materials for selective carbon dioxide capture. You will ensure that the development of portable, rechargeable power systems aligns with the program's goals, including integrating fuel energy density with battery flexibility. You will also advise on technical challenges and best practices to enhance energy resilience and reduce logistical dependencies.
In addition to technical oversight, this role involves coordinating meetings, assessing performer progress, projecting outcomes, and ensuring adherence to project management best practices across DARPA and its IV&V (Independent Verification and Validation) entities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert guidance on battery chemistry and energy systems, particularly in the context of high-rate carbon dioxide chemical reduction and materials for CO₂ capture.
Advise on the integration of fuel energy density with battery flexibility to support DARPA’s energy resilience goals.
Monitor technical progress and ensure performers align with program goals.
Conduct technical assessments, provide insights into the development of new materials (e.g., conductive polymers), and suggest improvements where necessary.
Ensure that project management best practices are followed by performers, IV&V entities, and within DARPA itself.
Facilitate coordination between research teams and DARPA, ensuring clear communication of technical developments.
What Success Looks Like
Strong technical expertise in battery chemistry, electrochemistry, and/or redox reduction processes.
Experience in developing conductive polymer materials to advance flexible battery technologies.
Demonstrated ability to quickly master new research areas and provide strategic input on both current and next-generation topics in battery technology.
Proven leadership in managing and guiding research programs, with hands-on experience in directing research teams and technical projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Active DoD Secret Clearance.
Ph.D. or Master’s Degree with at least 1-2 years of experience in Battery Chemistry, Engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience developing conductive polymer materials for flexible battery technologies.
Desired Qualifications
Proven experience leading battery chemistry and engineering projects.
Exceptional technical writing skills, including proofreading and quality control for technical documents, presentations, and reports.
Strong communication skills, both written (including PowerPoint) and oral, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project.
