Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biological Science or a closely related field in hand by January 2025. High level of familiarity with microbial and human cell cultures. High level of familiarity with fungal biofilm formation and analysis. Use of scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy of fungal and mammalian cells. High level of familiarity with lipid extraction and analysis by labeling methods and by thin layer chromatography and by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. High familiarity on studying gene expression, down-regulation and metagenomics. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in animal work (e.g. mouse genotyping, performing oral gavage, intravenous injections, intraperitoneal injection, organ excision, tissue DNA analysis, tissue metabolic analysis, such as flow cytometry, IHC, RNA base scope, and H&E staining). High familiarity with tissue culture, such as transfection using plasmids and or lentivirus. Brief Description of Duties: The Postdoctoral Associate will assist Dr. Maurizio Del Poeta in the department of Microbiology and Immunology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. Performing animal experiments to determine the efficacy of antifungal drugs on mice survival and tissue burden culture (organ infectivity) upon fungal infections (e.g. cryptococcosis, candidiasis and aspergillosis). Microbial and human cell culture analysis. Performing metabolomics or/and metabolomics analysis, protein expression/purification or/and analysis. Performing protein expression, purification and analysis. Performing lipid extraction, purification and analysis. Analyze, interpret the results of the analysis, solve potential problems and pitfalls, and discuss the data with the principal investigators. Contribute to write reports and manuscripts on the results obtained. Present the results in a logical way during research meetings or presentations and be able to provide ideas and set up next experimentations/questions. Other duties as assigned.
