Under general supervision, has responsibility for a psychiatric caseload involving children and/or adults; performs psychotherapy; performs psychological testing and assessment of clients; consults or personally provides support to complex or difficult mental health clients; may provide direction and work review for assigned Mental Health Clinicians, interns and other support staff; performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Licensed Clinical Psychologist I: This is the entry level in this specialist class. Incumbents are assigned mental health casework which will broaden and deepen their professional experience in diagnosis, group and individual therapy, and psychological testing and assessment. This class is alternately staffed with Licensed Clinical Psychologist II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meets the qualifications of the higher level class. (Note: Incumbents may only remain in this class up to the equivalent of two full-time years following intern registration.)

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Persons appointed to regular county positions serve a probationary period. This is normally six (6) months but could be up to one (1) year. All designated safety employees serve a one-year probationary period.

- Administers and interprets various psychological assessment instruments for mental health clients.
- Performs psychotherapy or provides professional consultation for the more complex or difficult client assessments and/or mental health programs or projects.
- Performs client intake and psychological evaluation of clients new to the service; obtains client histories and determines mental status and performs diagnoses.
- Provides on-going psychotherapy and necessary referrals for clients as needs dictate; provides psychotherapy to chronically mentally ill adults and children, brief therapy for clients experiencing situational-type problems, and ongoing therapy for clients in out- or in-patient settings.
