ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SECRETARY/BOOKKEEPER (MORRIS AVENUE)

QUALIFICATIONS: Alabama public school experience preferred but not required. Associate or two-year degree in Accounting/Business or prior experience in Accounting/Business/Bookkeeping/Information Technology Strong accounting/bookkeeping background with experience and/or formal training in computerized accounting. Experience with Harris/NextGen Budgetary Accounting System preferred but not required. Ability to work effectively under minimal supervision Word processing skills required. Database and spreadsheet skills preferred but not required. Effective human relation skills. Professionalism, dedication and flexibility. Must have a clear background check with the ABI and FBI. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exhibit a positive and helpful attitude toward students, staff, parents, and other visitors Maintain strict confidentiality on all school related matters Observe Alabama Local School Accounting Procedures Maintain a complete and systematic set of records for all financial transactions of the school Prepare and record daily cash receipts and deposits Issue requisitions/purchase orders, review and match invoices to purchase order and receiving documentation, review for proper account coding Issue checks for approved purchases in a timely manner Reconcile monthly bank statement to school general ledger and financial reports Assist school administrators in preparation of annual school budget, including amendments to the original budget Monitor budget to actual accounting results keeping school administrators informed of significant variances Ensure school accounts maintain positive account balances Prepare payroll and related reports as required Submit payroll, financial reports, budgets to the Board within established timelines Maintain inventory control records Assist with year-end closing as it related to local school accounting Perform secretarial duties as assigned by the principal Compose a variety of documents, such as letters, student records, reports, memos, etc. Good mathematical and office practice skills File correspondence and other records Answer telephone and give information to callers or route calls to the appropriate official Learn additional software, procedures, etc. as needed Maintain an orderly work environment In the absence of the principal, refer all disciplinary problems to the designated faculty member as directed by the principal Contact designated faculty member or superintendent's office in case of emergency (in absence of principal) Perform other duties as assigned by administration

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

12 Months (235 Days, 7.5 Hrs.)

Salary Range:

According to Opelika City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year).
