The Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development,

Division of Corporations, Business & Professional Licensing is recruiting for Paralegal 2 located in Anchorage or Juneau!

What you will be doing: At the Corporation, Business and Professional Licensing Division, Paralegals serve to ensure competent, professional, and regulated services are delivered to the community by investigating alleged continuing education violations of statutes and regulations governing 43 different licensed professions in the State of Alaska. The Paralegal is the Division's focal point for all Freedom of Information Act document requests in accordance with the Alaska Public Records Act. The paralegal is further responsible for reporting of professional licensing disciplinary actions to national databanks as required by law.

The investigation unit supports this mission by investigating and reporting allegations against Alaska's licensed professionals who violate the laws governing their licenses. The working environment you can expect: This position may be filled in Juneau or Anchorage, Alaska. The Juneau office is located on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. The Anchorage office is located in downtown Anchorage inside the Atwood Building on the 15th floor; close to the park strip, restaurants, coffee huts, and shopping. Employee parking is located across the street in the Linny Pacillo Parking Garage in Anchorage. Teleworking will be considered for suitable applicants after training has been completed.

Competency with standard office equipment is expected and computer literary and fluency with Microsoft Office is essential to handling the large volume of digital documents and evidence in cases and utilizing the digital case management system. Effective Communicator:

Clear and professional oral and written communication is essential to anyone working in the legal field. Ability to Maintain Confidentiality:

Strict confidentiality is required due to the nature of the work performed. Independent Worker:

Taking initiative, exercising sound judgment, and following directions with minimal supervision is critical in our offices. The best candidate for this position will have the opportunity to utilize and acquire a wide range of investigative and paralegal skills. The incumbent will join a team of professionals, committed to public service.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of training under a formally established Paralegal 1-2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska;

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

Administrative Law: Knowledge of State and federal administrative laws, including procedures, regulations, guidelines, and precedents related to case preparation and settlements. Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences. Stress Tolerance: Deals calmly and effectively with high stress situations (for example, tight deadlines, hostile individuals, emergency situations, dangerous situations). Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Post-secondary and/or vocational education in a legal, paralegal, criminal justice, or similar legal support area and/or experience performing paraprofessional legal investigation, discovery, and providing support in the preparation of legal cases, reports, documents, and exhibits.
